Kinda a spin off of some ones idea, when you roll 3 1 against an enemy mech, its a cockpit hit and the mechs destroyed. Would be a BAD BAD idea becuase then I can just see a Peasent Company killing Paladin Levin.
never seen the other idea, am a bit of a noob on realms. It used to be destroying mechs as well, but after a Full strength SS Vulture got nuked by a BR Condor tank we decided to call it a shutdown.
he got 1 white 6, and 1 Black 6, and rolled for the IT just to get an 'instant kill'.
At our venues(s), those dice are known to either a) be set aside, alone, that they might contemplate their mistake, without the fear of "infecting" the other dice, or b) take a ride through the air at any random target.
Just to be utterly, insanely, totally randomly pedantic...
It is indeed possible, in CBT rules, for one guy with a handgun to take down a 'mech.
A handgun, if it hits (which is not unlikely at the kind of ranges you'll be using this at), you roll 2d6, if you get a 12, it does 1 point of armor damage to the 'mech.
If you then roll the Floating Critial (Head (Cockpit))..... (Or, if you don't play the floating critical, I've actually /seen/ people get Critical/CenterTorso/3 crits/engine/engine/engine mech dead...)
Playing with Sadia wolf. She was on her starting position, and her second click of heat.
I gave her an attack order with her secondary weapon. I critical missed with 3 ones. I took a click to use my single use improved targetting. Re-rolled one of the white dies, and rolled a second 1. Took a click for the critical miss after all.
But wait, it gets worse. Now I take the 1 click of heat for the order. Sure enough, a heat effect- ammo explosion. I roll the 5th 1 in order. Ammo explosion. But because I had taken 2 clicks already, I was at my 5 secondary damage. WIth the -1, I took 4 more clicks.
the most damage ive ever gotten by the same pice in one turn was by the merc centurion. ok it had a +2 on heat dial it roll a critical hit and rolls a 6 on H-T-H weapon. result: 10 clicks in one turn.
In Germany 4 or more players of a city can build up clans to fight Clan-Battles against other cities/ clans and our clan rolls every fight 10 - 20 triple-ones, so we must change our name from Band of Five to "The Bad Ones". And I didn't love your Idea for 1-1-1.

How are you rolling for critical hits without armor penetration? Handguns do not use AP rounds, you would need to hit the 'Mech 10 times to start rolling for criticals.
The most insane roll I saw was a new player having to face BH in the Stick the Knife In scenario. He hit it the first time with the normal SS Demon Tank. Next turn, he pushes, and begins rolling. His opponent turns to me watching and says, he'll never make it, he has to keep his vehicle on. Succeeds at keeping the vehicle active, and crits BH on an 18. Two turns later, does it again. Little Demon smokes BH for 11 and 3 heat total.

Sorry to say this, but heat dials do not change the roll on a HTH per the FAQ.
