Ok, so a largely unrelated post got me to thinking about how much I would pay in actual hard-won-by-the-sweat-of-my-brow dollars never to have to see a particular unit across the table from me ever again. So I figured I'd start this thread as a avenue for people to ##### a bit in a new(?) format. So how much would you pay never to have to face again a...
Liao ATV
Any other ATV
Any other mega-infiltrating podunk infantry
SS Tank ArrowIV
DF Donar
DF Maxim:DF Schmitt (or any other variation of effective tankdrop)
SS MHI Towed AA (better as arty than actual Towed Arty)
Liao Targe
HL Kelswa
BR Chargemonkeyinchiefthisweek
Arnis
Liao Fattyo'theweek
SS Balac
SH Aesir
Etc
etc
etc
Y'know, I hated the idea of set retirement at first. And part of me still does. But another part of me thinks about those assorted units, the sheer number of times I've played against them, and wishes they had set-retired the whole ####ing game pre-FP.
I think the only unit that I have really had a problem with in the game is SSA4. I play the liao fatties, the Liao ATVs the SH ATVs the Tankdrop, the Arnis, the Balac etc.
About the only 2 things that I don't play are DF Donar and SSA4. I haven't seen the Donars on the table in any sort of tornament quality form, so I guess I'm a little inexperienced there.
I think that TD annoys ppl, Vtols in any numbers annoy ppl, Artillery in numbers annoy ppl, ATVs in number annoy ppl.... I think this makes my point.
Min/Maxing is the problem, and I think it will continue (maybe to lesser effect) even if pieces were "balanced".
I still think that MW should simply have a "restriced list". Say you have point build/50 points to go to "restriced" pieces, and a DF Donar will cost 4 "restricted points". Slap a premium on DF DiS and your most of the way there.
So in a 450pt game you will only see 2 DF donar. Do the same with ATVs, make them cost 1, make the Sprint cost say 5 and your well on the way to fixing many of the min/max problems. Fatties would come back big time, Other Mechs would be quite viable.
I think Magic has been in the game of gaming a long time. And they know all about restricted lists. God, does it make me "old" that I remember when one could trade any given rare for a Mox? Because people would say things like "oh, it is just an extra mana on your first turn"? Or when people were like "Library of Alexandria"? That card sucks, you have to have 7 cards in hand to use it!"
Really, I just hope AoD brings a sense of fun back to the game. Currently, all it takes to leech the fun from everyting is one ### showing up at the venue who enjoys causing everyone else annoyance. On that thought, perhaps putting all the LEs in boosters is a more significant move than people realize. It tends to limit the liklihood of some #######-out-of-towner showing up to annoy everyone/wintheprize if he can just buy a few boosters of product and do a bit of trading and get the set he needs. I got a case of FP (which turned out to be unfavorable for my factions) and it really took a low amount of effort ot finish the set I needed.
#### I feel old in the realm of gaming in general. Does anyone else remember 1991? Much less 1988?
I think I'm in there somewhere. The Model that I have suggested is actually something that a local magic tornament organiser used.
It went well. We didn't see Power 9 every game, but everyone who had a mox, or lotus or LoA or demonic tutor etc could still use them.
It just meant that every deck would not be every restricted card with 12 or so for the "concept". Were starting to see 2x Donar w/ 3x sprint w/ Bayin clowns as the "norm" power army. Now that scares me.
bring on arnis, the atv's, the arrow IV's. what i hate is the DF tank drop(not the tank). 2 rule adjustments would fix the tank drop.
1. disembarked unit can only be given a move order.
2. transport can not disembark a unit(s) after breaking away from opponents unit.would also keep vtol's from using speed points to fire at unit it just rolled to break away from.
This is the price of the last 12 Star Wars Rebel Storm boosters that I bought. I am not buying any more FP boosters (lets not even talk about CA or DFA). I get 7 useable and tradeable figs and one of them is a rare (or ultra rare).
WK is going to have to earn my money. They have been riding on easy street for the last 2 years. DA was the only balanced set.

Well....
1988... OH YEAH!!!! No... wait... I was 2 then...
now, 1991... OH THAT YEAR!!!! No... wait... I was only 5...
I do remember burning my hand when I was 18 months old, so that would have been in '88. I also remember nearly drowning when I was 5 ('91). So I do remember small parts of both those years, just neither of them in full...
How much would I pay to never again see Shawn's Kenneth Medchelke surrounded by peasants with a FFE LE DF Hauberk, Frederick Bo, 5 DF ATVs and 2 SC JI100s (DA or FFE?), etc? God... I could never put a price to never seeing that army again... God knows it's pasted me about 8 to 12 times... God I hate that army...
How much would I pay to never see another peasant tie down my 'Mech while the player only looses 4 points to stop 150+ from being effective...
How much would I pay to see an end to these cheapo repair vehicles people use to keep their artillery/AA repaired while it incessantly pushes...
Warflail, I saw your other post and I agreed with you then. Retirement has to happen. It's that simple. I can't count the number of times I've lost a game just because I was never able to get more than 2 peasants while everyone else used them to keep the 'Mechs (that I always use) from getting a shot off for only 4 or 5 points... and doing so the whole ***-**** game.
General: The maximum CBT tonnage of a Hover vehic (like the Maxim) was 50 tons and they generally couldn't maintain lift if they were carrying too much excessive weight. The weight of the infantry/cargo were included in the weight of the transport as dead space so the transport would be able to carry w/o loosing lift/slowing down excessively. There is no way in CBT that a 50 ton transport with maybe 8 tons set aside for cargo could carry a 90 ton tank. This includes towing it since the tank is bigger than the Maxim, much less it's cargo bay... The maxim either wouldn't get off the ground or it wouldn't be able to budge while tied to the tank. But everyone here with 2 braincells already knew most of that based on simple weight ratios.

Yeah, you did. After what I did to my opponent in the Marque today I agree with it. The moment it came out of the box and he didn't have artillery to counter it we all knew he was beaten. The psychological number it did on him was devastating enough, the fact that he had no formations and no attacks values over a 10 (and only one of those) didn't help. His precious Monic Deleportas was his only way to get his point total up to 450 and all of his vehicles were transports (Cardinals and Amphibs). He knew the moment he moved Monic up for a shot the HL Shadow Hawk and Sniper Team could formation with the Kelswa and nail Monics 21 def.
He was mentally and emotionally defeated before the game started. He tried, but he never expected to win; I never expected to loose with the Kelswa, and I didn't.
