Good evening all. I just got back from my venue and was saddened to learn that his distributor was given a short supply of Age of Destruction. He had ordered 8 cases of booster and 2 cases of Starters. Out of these, 6 cases of boosters were preordered by my players, and I had twelve starters set aside. Now we are only receiving 3 cases of boosters and a half case of starters. I and another player had already paid for our cases, so the venue gave us first dibs, and we plan to divy up the remaining case between my players Wednesday night. I should be able to make sure everyone gets at least one starter and three booster. Does anyone know how many starters were in a case?
Anyway, I was just curious if anyone else had run into problems getting their order. Please feel free to drop a line, or PM me.
If I remember correctly, I believe there was 24 starters per case in Dark Age. I would assume the same would be true with Age of Destruction. But then again, you know what they say about assuming.
its called 'place and chase', a common marketing strat. You supply just under the expected market demand, and thus artifically you raise demand like mad for a tiny bit of time. In that window of time, you release lots of product, and since everybody has an inflated idea of how rare, valuable they are; in hopes, lots will sell.
However, it wouldn't have been smart if they did that with starters... as they really only get one chance to sell a large quantity of starters. I can't imagine anybody really wanting a gank of starters in 3 weeks time.
well thats true Corle but maybe that you get some cases in a week or so. We all in my area use get our cases at the same spot so we have this problem. But we have only have two cases coming from that store the rest of us decide we will not wait we just paid 50 bucks and get our stuff at the same as everyone else. plus the venues are more happy with the one spreading out the love then the guys who go fofr the cheap case they can get meaning. the three guys who get the cheapest case can only play at the one or two venues well the rest of us can play at them all.
But then again, you know what they say about assuming.
Indeed. This sin alone is enough for the Infernal Emperor to expect you within a few decaded time to take upon your postmortem ethereal shoulders your part of eternal suffering in the dark realm of brimstone and hellfire!
Heh, I would have made a fine reverend, hardcore style! Ah, to bring the fear of God into my fellow man.
This has been the case with the last few expansions of MW. My local venue has often ordered 12 or more cases, only to be told that the cases were in short supply and they would have to live with 3 or 4 for the first week.

From what I've been hearing the new starters are rather large...20 per case? Less?

I am a victim of this shortage. I was told that I would get a case, then when I was to pick it up.
I get "Our distributor has run short of cases and we cannot give you one."
It was bad enought that it was the release date. But I had no follow up.
Now Im on a waiting list. So much for perpay.
I would think that WKs would want to sell as much product in as short a time as possible. that would mean that they over produce at first and adjust the production runs to match demand after the initial release.
but, I guess that is why I don't make the big bucks. :cross-eye
I'm not geting my case till Saturday most likely myself but that is because I don't have time to get it before then. I hope there isn't a shortage, as I would like to get my new little plastic pieces as soon as possible. My retailer doesn't have too high of a demand so I should be able to get it.
[Engineer] Why would there be a shortage of AoD? No one plays MW anymore. All anyone plays anymore is SW Minis, because the ruleset is so much better and because MW is stupid and the rules are poorly written and everyone is dumb. [/Engineer]
I'm not sure about all of the distributors (since there are quite a few of them), but I can confirm that at least one of the big 3 is completely out of boosters. (Although they still have starters).
Luckily, we got our pre-ordered cases (4 of boosters, 1 of starters).
I'll be waiting for more from the second wave, but have been told that it will probably be a week or so until they arrive.
