I would not exactly say the best. There are plenty of mechs that can beat her down and she's no where near invincible. It's really the 21 defense that gets her. As for best mech I'd be inclined to say Bounty Hunter or Tara Campbell myself, of course those are my two factions of choice and in reality there are several good mechs and none better than the other. I'm sure a Republic player would say Levin is the best and at the same time a Liao player would say Czupek. The truth is a well made army for any of these could beat the other with a little skill and luck. As for what gear Numismancer seems to think that decoy would work good and and he's pretty good when it comes to this stuff.
considering you put a good pilot with any mech and the defense shoots up to 22+ then add hindering terrain..well you only need one equipment piece of decoy to make any mech a hard target to hit. So anybody can be a good one to play. I'm waiting for Anama/ken roose with decoy try popping him running aound ,just like all the other good combos.
You know, it's rather funny how I could think of what would commonly be considered the best mechs for each faction, but I hesitated for my own faction (Swordsworn) and thought, "man... our mechs suck." :D
Good? Sure. Best? Dependent on situation, army, and playstyle. Now, if you're saying Alpha is the best Steel Wolves 'Mech ever, then you may be on to something.
As soon as I get ahold of one, I'll have an opinion on her... Until then, I can only drool.
What I like about her is she's almost guarenteed first strike unless you charge her, and that's a horrible idea in and of itself. Decoy seems to be the favorite for defending her, and I'll agree with that 100%. Her dmg output at peak is enough to hurt the opposing mech well past it's ability to hit a 21 def reliably, and it doesn't seem that unlikely to get her to peak--of course, I like the SW Faction Pride card, and it leaves me in a very small minority. What I really like about it is how it fixes a problem I've always had with wolves--my peices are in position, but not ready for the fight. Suddenly, BAM! I get the click I needed to make the shot worthwhile and get to put a large hole into my enemy.
I'd use her with an arty peice or two, Faction Pride, and some infantry--maybe a bigish tank, too. First turn, drop some pogs, force your enemy towards you, and click Tassa down. Second turn, she hits prime and blows the tar out of anything you don't like. If your opponent drops arty on her head, just let it hit. You could use the Pride to get the arty or tank into prime. If you fire the pogs while you're on a weak click, you could pump your dmg and attack up to where you want 'em.
I'd say Caber with Tara is a better combination - 12 attack, 22 defense, throw in decoy, improved targeting, or heavy armor, and she's sure to hit (possibly for 8 clicks), and you'll probably miss.
Alpha is a great offensive option - a superb gun platform worthy of respect - but the Defense is "only" decent, not "oooh", and lastly, as a fan of CJF...

I feel ya. SH also has very few mechs in the "won't blow up if I push it" category.
you could go several ways with tasha and alpha if you wanted.
though I don't think she is in need of the SH - SW situational alliance.
Personaly I'd go w/ SW faction pride, and evade for heavy [coorect me if i am wrong, i think there is an evade for heavies] 23 defense vs ranged in prime w/ 12 targeting and 5 AP. ouch. or it fout wanted you could Highlander - Steel Wolf Situation alliance and give her and effective 13 targeting. she definatly is a 'put a big fuggin hole in the enemy first, ask questions later' unit and thats what i like! Personaly i'd favor being able to assault order into the enemy DZ second turn with her via SW Faction pride first turn then using her single use evade to run her in for 16 [i belive] second turn assault order in for 20" and blast artillery or whatever else for five. this is really where the evade would come in handy, just use it to blast arty, run away and cool then strike again and with her. Blitzkrieg!
If I get ahold of her thats how i plan on using her. :D
oops my mistake and i make an ### of myself! I swore i saw an evade for heavy, but i went back and checked...#### there wasn't one -_- oh well have to rethink how to use her now that i can't count on evade. bleh! maybe decoy would be good, thoug artemis IV would be cool for the sheer ability to possibly do 7 damage!
