Are these sets officially retired yet? If not, when? If all the AoD mechs are designed to have the same power as point cost as the pre-AoD mechs, then there is no reason why they cannot be played together as long as the pilot and gear cards are not allowed for the old ones. May be WK should delay retirement for a few months and see what happen. :)

Retirement happens 15 days after release of AoD. Technically that isn't until February 2nd or 3rd. Funny thing is there is an event scheduled here just before that has AoD for prizes.

DA, FFE, and DFA set retirement is imminent. Also, you cannot play gear/pilot cards on any of the old sets because the mechs don't have gear slots.

The official retirement day is 2 weeks from the release of AOD. Thus, Feb. 2 AOD becomes tournament legal, making DA, FFE and DFA retired. Hope this helps.

Of course, for some reason, this tidbit hasn't worked it's way into the tournament rules document (where sets that are retired are listed for Mage Knight & Heroclix). That's mostly because we still haven't gotten the AoD update for that document.
