Deos this mean that even if i don't want to deal any damage to one of my units that i have to or is it optional?

I know this sounds stupid but it deosn't say that i "may" deal damage.

Faction pride cards are optional.

so even though i have it in play i don't have to hurt my units every turn Quiaff?

Yes. If you have it in play, you may choose to do the damage or not each turn.

our faction pride is best used on units that can't really take themselves into their prime easily. with Kerensky that isn't a problem though using the faction pride to boost her speed then running her in and using her single use evade is fun...no one likes a potential 5 ap 12 av mech being able to rip apart their DZ second turn :D I know our local highlander player didn't see it coming and found himself flabbergasted when his artillery ate 5 on my second turn rendering it useless.

As a Faction Pride it actually sounds a bit silly, but it most certainly has its uses when played correctly. It's a less complicated way to get the SW Valiant on its sweet spot, for example. And since I've grown fond of that little shellbreaker, I just might go and actually use that FP-card in the nearby future.
