I guess I'm really out of the loop. Did all the great houses give up their mechs? What about the periphery? Did the Clan homeworlds also give up their mechs? Where did all the mechs go?
Well, according to WKs, the seemingly half-brother of Jesus, A.K.A. Devlin Stone, convinced all the Great Houses and IS Clans to follow him down the road to "prosperity"(A.K.A. 60 years from now you are SCREWED) and decomission most of their mechs. Of course most of the Houses hid mechs, and the Clans just really did not listen to well(to a point, as they carry only a ghost of what they used to go around with), so now you have all the Houses and Clans starting to rejoin the fight and bringing out their mechs(Ex. Laio, "nuff said). With the periphery, some are wiped out, some have joined with Clans( Raven Alliance), and some probably just do not care what is going on right now. Anyone want proof that some of the peripherieres(how do you say "Periphery" plural?) are gone? Look at the map of the IS in "Fortress of Lies".
The thing im really wondering is: why do factions who essentially have inner sphere roots (Republic, Highlanders, Kurita etc etc) have such a seemingly large pool of clan mechs? Granted, some would be gifted, sold, captured, etc., but this many? Were the Nova cats handing over whole mech lances to the republic or something?
This question can be easily answered, Wizkids does not give a ####. For all they say about bringing back the storyline, their "NEW" fiction is a pale comparison to the old COMSTAR. WK does not care about giving Clan factions mainly Clan tech, or IS mainly IS tech. Just look at all of the exspansions. FI, 3/4 Elemental Suits go to IS factions. All of the Thors go to I.S. Factions.(aaauggghhh!). Everyone(other than Laio and J.F.) have Clan(KEY-WORD)Battle Armor. ALL of the Vultures go to I.S. factions. ALL of the Jupiters go to I.S. factions. All WK is really concerned about, like any buisness, is the money.
Well, when the Republic was formed, a significant number of Clansmen who fought against the Word of Blake together as part of the allied forces rallied by Devlin Stone decided to join the Republic. A large amount of the military material they brought with them was decommissioned, mothballed or distributed to the Republic Armed Forces. By now many of the decommissioned and mothballed 'Mechs have been rebuild, repaired and/or revamped, which also explains why the IndustrialMechs are seen less and less on the frontlines.
@Nanhold.
Quite true, but it is still quite ridiculous to have I.S. factions have more Clan tech than Clan factions. From a fluff point of view it sort of makes sense, but is still messed up,
Mechs have been slowly dying out for the last few centuries anyway. Prior to the Sucession Wars each of the great houses had literally hundreds of regiments of mechs- the SLDF itself fielded a couple of a hundred DIVISIONS each with 1-4 battlemech regiments!
The Sucession Wars decimated the battlemech regiments of the great houses, so by the 4th Succession War even the great AFFS, the largest of the 5 house armed forces, had only about 130 or so mech regiments (including merc regiments). The peace between the 4th Sucession War and the Clan Invasions gave them time to rebuild to some degree, however the Clans wiped out dozens of regiments during thier invasions. Toss in the IS counterattack (Operation Bull Dog), the Marik/Liao/Davion war of 3055, the FedCom Civil War AND the Blakist War... and you have a LOT of destroyed mechs.
The Stoner peace was easy to enforce... everyone (except maybe the Clans) was pretty beaten up. There probably weren't THAT many mechs to mothball.
As for Clan material in IS armed forces... nothing new there. Prior to the FedCom Civil war there were Federated Suns regiments that fielded entire companies of Omni-mechs. The Clan mechs were better than their IS counterparts, so it only makes sense that IS armed forces would go to great lengths to maintain and acquire Clan equipment. If I'm drawing down my armed forces then the obsolete units would be the first to meet the budget axe. While those MadCats, Ryokens, and Ullers would be the first to be saved and updated with modern equipment.
Clan Elementals though... Wizkids screwed that one. Only Clans with their 'super-soldier' ideals would be able to field them and their varients.
TURN ALL OF YOUR MECHS AND FIGURES INTO THE GREAT RETIREMENT BON FIRE AND WE SHALL REWARD YOU WITH PLASTIC PUNCH OUT CARDS TO FIGHT WITH INSTEAD. MAY THERE BE MANY PLASTIC CARDS IN YOUR FUTURE SO THAT WE MAY TURN MECHWARRIOR INTO PLASTIC CARD WARRIOR THAT YOU PLAY LIKE MAGIC.
YES AND THEN THE GREAT CIRCLE OF LOGIC WILL ENABLE THE TRUTH OF RETIREMENT - THIS WAS NEVER A MINIATURES GAME, YOU JUST CHOOSE TO SEE THE MINIATURES, WHEN IN FACT YOU WERE PLAYING A CARD GAME ALL ALONG.
WHAT BLASPHEMY TO BE USING 3-DIMENSIONAL THINGS WHEN DEALING WITH A CARD COMPANIES GAME. HENCEFORTH ALL WHO CHOOSE TO PLAY MECHWARRIOR SHALL DO IT WITH CARDS. YES....THAT IS IT.....CARDS......CARDS WITH BUBBLEGUM.......CARDS IS WHAT YOU ALL NEED.....CARDS
Granted, tons of Clansmen fought for the Republic, but if you were Clan Wolf, Nova Cat, whatever, and your mechwarrior wanted to become a republic citizen, would you let them take their hardware with them? Seems like its property of the clan, not the mechwarrior. As for the Federated Suns omnimechs, I thought they were inner sphere omnimechs, not clan designed.

Oh stop already. Quit complaining and go away. Stop whining about something you knew was coming a long time before. You have made whatever point you wanted, and no one cares.
Back on topic:
The FedSuns omnis would have been captured and salvaged Clan Mechs.
As for the Clan factions not having Clan Mechs, yeah that burns. But there is only one Clan, that is not made up of warriors living in the Republic. The SC and SW have a couple of Clan Mechs, but mostly IS Mechs, because they have been isolated from their Clans and Clan equipment.
For Jade Falcon, they have a few Clan Mechs. Eyrie, Gyrfalcon, Shrike, Shadow Hawk IIC, Ocelot, Koshi. All Clan. However, they still have 9 IS Mechs.
From a normal fluff perspective, this makes no sense. But the Falcon incursion is not "technically" a new invasion. It is an expeditionary force, meant to check on the status of the Republic and Terra itself. Malvina Hazen says she expects the rest of the Touman to join the JFEF when Khan Jana Pryde is ready.
The inner sphere could replicate clan tech to a point, (LBX autocannons) but have a lot of trouble with energy weapons. SO although they may get a hold of clan mechs and equipment every now and then, they can't replace broken weapons on their own, hence all the clan mechs with LRM minimums (subbed-in IS tech).
So it makes sense that the IS could have clan tech, (EXCEPT battle armor) but the fact that the falcon's are slummin' it in panthers and spiders is a little hard to swallow.
well you have to remember one thing that all of you have forgotten. With the decomissioning of 80% of all the military assets in the greater IS you would have to think of the fact that ANY mech is worth its wieght in gold. I wouldn't care if the salvage was alien as long as the dam stuff worked. and to set a few things straight:
Jade Falcons: Their force isn't all of the clan and the fact that they have to replenish their combat losses with hardware means their getting it from isorla or what ever they find.
Elemental BA: It has been stated time and time again that there are elemental bloodlines all over the place since alot of warriors left with stone...their children would be scary huge still.
IS possesion of clan tech: I have to say that with what was left from the invasion and operation bulldog should have been enough to field quite a few mech regiments. also sea fox has sold some chassis for a while to the IS. Plus I have to agree that because of the IS acquiring omni tech and the fact that omnis were becoming more and more common lead to the fact that the houses chose their best units to mothball and let the #### that was succesion age be decomed.
SC & SW: There not even true clans so that means they don't have clan tech....do you see a clan steel wolve or a clan spirit cat? No they are not even true clans, they have no way to produce clan weapons or mechs. They like CLAN wolves-in-exile can come across clan tech easier from either WiE or Clan Sea Fox.
As far as unit composition I would think that the Republic would have the best of the best since units from every house came to help and that hardware stayed there so the republic has the most varied mix of hardware.
Elemental battle armor can be fitted for anyone it just works better on the genetically enginered super warrior that the clans make. don't believe me read back to the invasion. Kia Allard Liao wore an elemental suit when he helped out the falcons on i believe alyina or some such planet.
the fact that clans have less omnis deos however tick me off. Where is my SUMMONER!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@CaptainofC-21: I understand your sentiments. Even though the Clans are known for having upgraded captured Inner Sphere military hardware, it would be more logical from a fluff perspective if the majority of at least Clan Jade Falcon's equipment would be genuine Clantech. It would give WizKids a good excuse to reuse the sculpts for the Jupiter, Uller, Mad Cat II, Vulture and Thor (to name but a few) again.
@BlackHornedDea: If you were under the impression that nothing says "intellectual superiority" like LEAVING THE CAPS LOCK ON, you're sorely mistaken. And since you've stopped playing, one has to wonder what you're even doing here.
@Roshak: True, that. Clan battle armor can be modified in such a way that it can be used by normal-sized human beings. Since the Inner Sphere powers have been producing battle armor for quite a while now, this should actually be a rather simple procedure.

By the way, am I the only one who finds it strange that this person called Insurance, who apparently has been a member of this forum since 2002, just reappears out of nowhere to make his very first post almost three years after he joined MWRealms?
