I wanted to write a letter and thank you and the design team for the great job you did on AoD. Right after Falcon's Prey I was on the verge of leaving the game for good. When you guys did your sit down with the community to talk about AoD I was skeptical at best but decided I would wait and see before jumping off the ship. I really doubted that you guys could turn the game around, because frankly, it just wasn't much fun anymore.
Boy was I wrong. AoD really made this game into something special. It was always pretty unique amongst other tabletop games, but it had become stagnant. Everything you guys have done has really restored my faith in Wizkids as a company and earned all of you who worked on making AoD happen my upmost respect. In my required business elective when I was an undergraduate, they said the only measure of a companies success that matters is the happiness of its customers. Let me say wholeheartedly that for the first time in a long time I am genuinely happy with Wizkids and the state of Mechwarrior.
Obviously I could never name all the people that worked hard to make AoD happen, but let me relay to you so that you can relay to them my personal thanks for the phenominal job you all did. I was on the brink of leaving this game for good. I didn't think there was anything that you could do to change that for me and you brought me back by making the funnest game in the gaming industry. Great job and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the months to come.
yes, props to the wizkids team. the have done a great job with AoD. really, i myself was about ready to quit the game and just sell all my stuff on ebay, but then i heard about AoD and soooo.... I'm still here! :) (should you guys/gals really be crying or celebrating? :p lol)
i just love the new cards. somethin' i always thought should have been added to the game in the first place. and now we have mission cards? sweeet.
its all good. :)
NOW! if i can just manage to get some time off to participate in a tournament or two, that would be great! i'm just itchin' to test all the new stuff out at a competitive level. :)
trust me, the dudes that frequent my venues... they are challenging! :) (thats a good thing, mind you. i like it that way. :))
As a disillusioned envoy after 2.0 & Sportsclix, I had almost decided to give up on all of it. I enjoy the personalized mechs, altho I sure don't have the hang of it yet. Like having mercs useful in my games now, as real allies. Like seeing old favorites still involved (suggestion....Atlas???) Anyhow, great job, from someone who's still hanging on to WK stuff ONLY because of this set.
Agreed. Pre-AoD artillery is still troubling in multiples but overall AoD is a quantum leap forward in gameplay from FP.
I HATED the idea of retirement. Retirement is what eventually stopped my from playing M:tG. The problem with that business model is that if you ever stop buying/playing for a few months it's frustrating to start again. Eventually you realize that getting caught up just isn't worth it. This will happen with me with Mechwarrior Dark Age eventually. It really is just a matter of time.
But this time my loathing of retirement was counterbalanced by my admiration of the AoD ruleset. I like the custom cards, the assault orders, the shooting into and out of base contact (not however the odd ruling that you do not suffer the based penalty if you have multiple targets and target the baser). It did so much to restore balance and fun to the game that I felt compelled to open my wallet and reenter the game. So far I have not be disappointed. Please keep it that way. I'm cautiously optimistic now, a far cry from my near total disgust 4 months ago. That's how much I like these rules...
Well done. It also helped that I went to a faction that appeals to my gaming attitude. As for retirement, yeah, I was dissappointed last night when I was working up a Republic army for the Storyline and realized a lot of the better peices were retired. So, I just dediced to save that army for unrestricted and to build a Falcons army.
So, as long as you don't skip the Falcons AND the Republic in the same expansion, we'll get along fine. Ooh, and if they alternated, I could save some money. Just a pipe dream.
