Is the Federated Suns and Republic cooperating against the Jade Falcons and/or Liao? I know the Lyrans are teamed with the Republic against JF, but what other allies does the Republic call upon? And could someone explain the political details of the Liao/Rots alliance to me? Is Liao fighting against the Falcons or what?
I wouldn't go there if I were you. Dark Age fluff will make your head explode. Or at least give you horrible migraines.
I thought I had a near bullet proof addiction to Battletech novels. I'd read almost every one until the mechwarrior line came. The writting (which was beer and pretzels to begin with) dropped like a rock. After reading Stackpole's "glorious" return to BT continuity I swore off bt novels and have not looked back. Too bad too. I enjoyed all his earlier books.
Pay my jaded compatriot no mind. He means well. ;)
Yes, IMHO, the Federated Suns will be teaming up with the Republic against Liao.
They're ancient enemies, after all. Plus, a very famous Davion served the Republic
as a Paladin for years. As for Liao fighting the Falcons? Not likely, as they're on
opposite sides of the Republic from one another. Even if that weren't so, the
Cappies are too cowardly to face a Clan in combat! :cheeky:
Now, the Liao-Republic alliance thing makes things a little murky. It represents
Republic worlds (chicken ####s that they are) that have signed non-aggression
pacts with House Liao.

I'll just offer here that the line has improved quite a bit and that the last novel released, Target of Opportunity, was easily equal to some of the better BT novels. Though we had a rocky start, I now have some faith in the MW line because of the last chunk novels.
The only way I could figure that is if CapCon said "We'll send forces to help against the Falcons if you return those worlds to us that are rightfully ours." Considering the new Exarch in Levin, the chances of this being accepted, even if it was proposed are pretty close to nothing.
David is right about the Liao/Republic Alliance though. It represents those forward thinking Planetary Governors and Legates that can see the writing on the wall and know that the Republic is doomed so they make nonaggression pacts or even mutual defense treaties with the Capellan Confederation as we return to take what is ours. :p

You could, and should, have stopped right there! :p

Nah, they're just spineless. That's okay, though. The AFFS is on their way!
:devious:
AFFS? Whats that? If the steiners and the davions are both fighting cjf whats the likelihood we could see the FC reform?
AFFS stands for Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. ;)
As for Steiner and Davion fighting the Falcons together, I have to admit that
(as much as I'd like to see that) it probably won't happen. A lot of bad feelings
are still left over from the FedCom Civil War. Davion will focus on aiding the
Republic against the predations of Liao while Steiner focuses on the Falcons.
NO!!!! We want to take back our worlds, as per that nitwit Sandoval who can't run a campaign to save his life. Send in the real Davion Guards, and even those overly-righteous KotS won't be able to stand against us :).
Of course, that would be a nice plot twist, however, WK will probably go the normal route of placing us against the Cappies, nice people as they are, lol ;).
Well, Terra or Sian, the AFFS doesn't mind either way :).
Also there's the little thing about the significant amount of people who truly love the Republic, so it looks like the Republic of the Sphere is here to stay. Bloody but not unbroken, so to speak.
Wonder if it'll eventually boil down to the Republic and her allies versus everyone else.
So far, it does seem to be shaping up that way. We have more Clans to be intro'd
and the remains of one more Great House (Marik) and don't forget about Comstar.
Well, ComStar just came back into continuity in a BIG way. Dropship of unknown configuration? Completely unknown Assault Mech?? Uh-Oh.
AND HEY!! The SwSw has done a decent job of representing Davion interests in the ROTS. Let's not forget that Victor was a Paladin, and helped to build the ROTS from it's very beginning. If not for David Lear introducing Devlin Stone to Victor, there might never have been a Republic. Think of it as a Davion eye on Terra.
Now, if the NAIS can come up with a way to keep the heat down in these Mechs, the AFFS will be unstoppable.
Oh, and any true Davionist can tell you, we'd NEVER team up with those nutcases in the CapCon. NEVER. We'd rather kiss a Ghost Bear, especially that Angela Bekker. Team up with the Steiners? Maybe. After all, we do have cousins over there. But the Liao's??? Ewwwwwwww.
