With Annihilation, the silver based 'Mechs are not available in gold prize versions, and vice-versa. The silver based versions are 'super-rare'. Less common than a black based unit, but more common than the 'ultra-rare'... sort of.
Why sort of? The numbers on the bottom of the Annihilation box state 1:6 unique, 1:24 super-rare, 1:48 ultra-rare. Here's the tricky part - that is your chance of pulling that class of rarity. Now look at what makes up each class...
Your chance of drawing any particular 'Mech from that class is 1:(number of 'Mechs in that class). A ratio is a fraction, so...
1/6 x 1/8 = 1:48 - chance of drawing a particular unique
1/24 x 1/4 = 1:96 - chance of drawing a particular super-rare
1/48 x 1/1 = 1:48 - chance of drawing a particular ultra-rare
So unlike previous sets, where the ultra was 1:144, for Annihilation the crimson based 'Mech is as common as the uniques! Don't pay stupid prices for the Kodiak!

Um, well, it's as common as any particular unique, but that's not the same as being as common as uniques more generally. If you open 48 boosters, statistically you should pull 8 uniques, 2 LEs and 1 Kodiak.
Certainly, though, the relative frequency of the ultra-rare as compared to previous sets is showing, if the booster pull threads are any indication.
A good advise, but you know how people are. When caught by the eBay-rush, some persons will happily bid and bid and bid until they've won the Rasalhague Dominion Kodiak auction for the mere fee of $242,55 (P&P not included).

That would be what my entire post was about Hawk. :p
Okay, I might have slipped a little in the wording at the end, but my point was that the Kodiak is as common as say, the King Crab, or Quantum.

You know, the European method of writing such numbers makes your bid above even more rediculous. It looks like $242.550 to us yanks.
Do keep in mind supply and demand, though. Sure, I'm as likely to pull a King Crab as a Kodiak, but am I as likely to *want* a King Crab? My suspicion is that not only will collectors want the KDK for completeness, but that while non-HK players won't want Tekken (for instance), lots of people will want to have and try out the Kodiak even if they won't become RD players later. So the demand for the KDK is likely to be higher than that for any given faction-bearing unique. Just my thinking.
Ah yes...I remember my first firepower booster....oh the black bases figures within, 2 common, a uncommon, and...a SUPER RARE!!! but ofcourse I didnt know the rareity of the mechwarrior units, my Sei-gie was the super rare, I didnt understand this at first, I just thought since its a mech it has a diffrent colored base than the other units, only till bout a month later did I finaly realise what I had...and even got offers for it once I posted my fine in the wizkids forum before becomeing a member here, something round like 50 some ought other units for my Sei-gi, but ofcourse since it was the first super rare I ever gotten, I wouldnt trade it...nor will I trade it, I am now using House Kurita, and Dragons Fury, a friend of mine told me they have some sorta of house alliance or something so I was like...Ok. :devious:

I know, you people are funny like that. Don't worry, I don't take offense.

Since MechWarrior: Annihilation there indeed is a Dragon's Fury - House Kurita House Alliance. Also there's the Clan Nova Cat - Spirit Cats House Alliance. Since House Kurita and Clan Nova Cat have a Grand Alliance together, you might also want to consider collecting a few Clan Nova Cat and Spirit Cats units.
