Okay...I'm a HUGE DC nut, and for the life of me I can't figure out who Powergirl is. I do know her name is Kara and she has some Kryptonian DNA (is it possible she's somehow connected to Kara Zor-El?).
Any light on this subject would be greatly appreciated!!

The origins of Power Girl are not known at this time. Keep
Reading JSA as they are going to fill us in at some point.
She was supposed to be the Granddaughter of Arion lord
of Atlantis circa God knows when, but recent events are
slowly proving otherwise.

I think before the Crisis, she was basically Earth-2's Supergirl. I thought she was supposed to be that Superman's cousin. Post Crisis they've had to make some obvious adjustments though. They still haven't really settled on her origin to my knowledge...
rrrrrrrreally?! Thanks Capt. All the clues I've ever had where in Crisis and some JLE's. Calling her Kara and having that cat following her around always threw me. I never knew they've never done an acuall background to her...that's really interesting!

If you can keep up with point counting and clicking in Heroclix, then you have enough brain cells to understand and process parallel universes.
Bring on the Crime Syndicate!!!!!
Crisis really messed with some people. Of course, the three ladies most changed were Fury, Huntress and Power Girl - the three tied to the Big Three who no longer had Golden Age counterparts (Wonder Woman, Batman & Superman respectively).
Boneyard has a pretty good writeup on the entire convoluted mess that is Fury's history (what is it about being associated with Wonder Woman that is fatal to your history? Donna Troy had the same problem!). Pre-Crisis Huntress was Batman & Catwoman's daughter. Post-Crisis her history has nothing to do with Batman (again, Boneyard has a good write-up on her post-Crisis).
Power Girl was the Earth-2 Supergirl. Superman's cousin, came to Earth (but later than the Earth-1 Supergirl), became a hero, hung out with Huntress & an adult Robin. Then came Crisis and away went Earth-2 and the Golden Age Superman (and Supergirl). Now, they couldn't just plug her into Superman's history because they were rebooting Superman (see John Byrne's Man of Steel), but they wanted to use her, so they had to come up with an origin. So they decided she was Arion's granddaughter (Arion was the last Mage of Atlantis and had a long-running comic in the '80s - set about 45,000 years ago, Cap) who had been sent forward in time. They made some changes to her costume and had some odd magical things happen to her (including her baby, who I think has retroactively ceased to exist). But recently it was revealed that Arion wasn't her grandfather, and that in fact we have no bloody clue whatsoever who she really is. So like Captain Comet said, if you really want to know read JSA because supposedly they're going to clear it all up.

Earth-2 was the Golden Age Earth. Infinity Inc was all of the kids of the Golden Agers getting together. Pre-Crisis Superboy was Earth-1. Post-Crisis he was part of a pocket universe created by the Time Trapper. And unfortunately my budget doesn't let me keep up with the Legion, so I can't tell you who the new old Superboy is.

For all that I love the "Crisis" storyline...it sure did mess things up, and then try to fix it all with Zero Hour just made it all worse!

There is no quick fix. Crisis and Zero Hour were bad ideas. (Not bad comics, just should not have been done). There is no way to quick fix 50 years of continuity in a twelve issue mini series. The thing to do would have been to quietly stop referring to the other continuities on such a regular basis, and thus reduce the need for explanations.
Crisis led many a Legion fan to have strokes and ulcers for many years. LOL!
Power Girl is my favorite DC heroine right after Black Canary and Huntress, and I couldn't tell you what is up with her now.
I do vote for a Power Girl movie with Jeri Ryan. That would be awesome!
There was no new Superboy. The problem with just saying it was Mon El was they appeared in many stories together. Supergirl was replaced with Laurel Gand. Basically, Legion continuity had a big truck hole through it that no one talked about until Zero Hour just admitted you had to restart from scratch.
Any Legion tales before Zero Hour never happened. Thanks Crisis. That helped a lot. So much that as bad as it was, Zero Hour was the only solution.
