I'm sure this is a popular and frequently asked question. But what are the ways all of you store and carry your mechs. The Plano tackle box is a popular choice but the size of Mechwarriors compared to other clix almost makes that option not available. I'm likeing the BattleHive II, but the $100 price sux. So post pics or explain your methods. First post! Thanx guys.
Home depot has some nice plastic organizer boxes of the Plano sort that are deep and wide enough to hold mechs comfortably. Look for the grey and yellow ones.
I prefer art buckets - most are two parts, the bucket itself (mech storage) and then a tray that fits inside, giving you a place to put tanks and infantry. You should consider finding an art or hobby supply store and looking around. My main carrying implement is some sort of "ArtBin" brand bucket that's pretty deep in both the main bucket and the inner tray, and the top has another small compartment area that I use for a few random small things like my dice and pogs as well as where I put all 9 of my Jackalopes. Also features a nice handle and a sturdy latch to keep it closed, as well as some holes to put locks through, if you require such security.
I'll probably have to split my collection into two buckets soon, though, it's getting a bit crowded in my one.
I suggest using those white boxes that are sold in hobby stores, the very kind of store that will sell mechwarrior. These are the boxes used to store cards for CCGs like Magic the Gathering or collection cards. The boxes are the exact height for you to store all the cards for this game and is also the right height to store the booster shells used to keep the mechs inside.
ok so I'm, curious about these ones from home depot that you speak of and the ones from the hobbyshop that hold the mechs with their shells. Anymore info would be great since I'm not sure if I would find what you described.
I use a box. Not just any box, but boxes that hold a case of Gatorade. You can find them thrown out of stores all over North America. Just get an employee to save one (or two) for you. When they get old (I'm just starting to replace my 3 year old box) just replace them. They take stickers so they won't look so plain. And I'm working on a cheap handle/strap out of rope and duct tape so I can carry more than 4 at a time.
I use a tool box. One of those that are big enough to easily carry hammers, wrenches and the like. Some comes in two layers, the top being used to hold nails and whatever else. The tanks and infantry goes in that layer just fine. Its sturdy, pretty cheap and much easier to carry around then a cardboard box.
I've got a bunch of Iris 6-Drawer Mini Chests (they restack to whatever configuration you want, and the drawers are just tall enough for most Mechs) for Mech and vehicle storage.
For infantry I use sandwich-sized generic 'gladware' containers (drill a hole in the lid do they can vent!), and put those in a few double-height drawers for the same Iris line.
To carry an army around, I picked up a nice little craft storage container at Target. It comes as two trays and a lid, the top of one tray latches onto the bottom of another tray, so you could stack as many as you wanted. I have two sets (four trays), which gets divided into a tray for terrain, a tray for rules and other printed material (including a small portfolio of missions and PCs), a tray for 'accessory' bits (dice, tokens, measuring tape, collapsible pliers, mini flashlight), and that leaves a tray to put an army or two into.
I also picked up a card case at one point from Toys R Us. It's meant for baseball/gaming cards, but it's a nice, deep semi-compartmentalized container that can hold a bunch of armies easily. I use it if I need to transport/store a bunch of pieces.
Everything that fits inside. I can fit 4 Plano 3600-series boxes for infantry or extra vehicles, and 2 Plano 3503 spinnerbait boxes that hold 9 assaults or heavies, 12-15 mediums, or 15-18 lights each.
My cards, rules, calculator, and terrain fit in a large zip binder.
Thanx for the ideas guys. I would love to see pics of everyones setup. Most of mine are the early series which did not come with cards and came with the pamphlets so I wonder if there's a binder that holds them with the right size inserts. I bought many factory sealed booster cases years ago so I have a good amount.
For storage, we use baseball card boxes. For transportation, my brother & I each have a tool box we use (each with different styles).
My box is a flat box with removable containers. One has my tokens, dice & ruler in it. For a tournament I'll pull that one out, plus the container(s) with my army. The container makes transportation between tables go smoother, too (put in container, bring container to new table).

The ones that you are asking about at home depot are the Plano 3730 series tackle box. It is sold both at home depot and other hardware stores (as a screw organizer), as well as Sporting Goods stores (as a tackle box). It is just wide and deep enough to hold a mech (two if you stack them right) or 8 infantry.
I have about 80 of them to hold my entire Mechwarrior collection.
