Played in a fun afternoon storyline tourney today and I got hit with a rule that I didn't expect. I was informed that every member of my fire formation had to be within range of the target. Looking back in my rules, I don't see anything like that. I figured that having a clear line of sight and the ability to get an attack order were enough. I don't mind the rule, I just want to know if it's something I should anticipate at other venues.
Also, I was looking over the Rasalhague Dominion FP card today. The phrasing on the bonus that it gives is a little vague. Does the bonus to attack or damage it provides come in addition to the normal +2/extra unit, or is it just giving the opporunity to trade out that +2 attack for +1 damage?

You're right that the Age of Destruction rulebook doesn't cover this clearly (if at all), but the original Dark Age rulebook says (on page 20):
"The target must be within the maximum range value and beyond the minimum range value of each of the formation members."
The ranged combat formation rules weren't changed in the AoD rulebook so as far as I know it still applies, and you should see the rule put into effect at every venue.

The card allows you to trade one or more of the +2 attack modifiers for +1 damage modifiers. It does not stack with the ordinary +2 attack modifiers from the other formation members.
Well, I've gone over the most recent FAQ again, and I don't see anything at all about formations.
The AOD rulebook says nothing about range requirements for ranged formations. It does not say that each member be able to fire on the target, only that each has a clear line of sight.
The Dark Age rulebook provides this rule, but that particular rulebook is not one of the rulebooks referred to by the most recent tournament rules.
I was really hoping that someone would be able to point out a current and official place where this rule exists, because now I'm in a ####ty place. I'm at the mercy of whim of the battlemaster of the venue. See, if I go into a tourney expecting the rule to be enforced and it's not, then I've got nothing to back me up if someone else doesn't follow it. Which means that I'll have to go into a tourney expecting to follow a rule that I can't expect anyone else to follow. That sucks.
I'm still holding out hope that someone can point out where this rule is being held up in something that's listed in the tourney rules.
Its on page 6 of the FAQ:
The line of fire must pass through the member's front arc and cannot exceed the member's maximum range or be less than the member's minimum range value.
FYI: You cannot rely on searches in the FAQ due to a font issue.
Thanks for the assist cavingjan. I'd have given the chapter and verse myself but I'm out on remote at the moment so don't have all my materials to hand.
