I was going to use an army made up of:

'mechs-
CNC Thor
CNC Avalanche (veteran) w/ Reflect. Armor & Grad. Certificate

Infantry-
CNC Clan Battle Armor (green)
CNC Thunderbird Battle Armor (green)
SC Flamer Team (elite) x3

Vehicle-
HK Huitzilopochtli Assault Tank (veteran)

My question is can I put the House Kurita tank in even though I already have Nova Cat & Spirit Cat units in my army. Or should I swap it for a SC Demon Med. Tank (elite) & SC Clan Battle Armor (elite) x2.:ermm:

Can you? Sure you can. The HK unit just can't be used in a formation with the SC units.

It is my understanding that even though CNC and NC have a House alliance, this doesn't cross over to equate NC units as CNC units to qualify for the HK & CNC Grand Alliance to allow formations.

Thanx, but just to make sure, is NC the same as Spirit Cats or did I type SC and it actually stands for something else? And if it's not any trouble strategies & tactics would be appreciated from anyone.:)

MadCatter meant SC, or Spirit Cats, when he answered the question. As for whether Spirit Cats can form with House Kurita, or whether Dragon's Fury can form with Nova Cats for that matter, I don't know. I'd always thought yes, but then I know nothing :p. I'd ask your area Battlemaster or post in the rulings forum and let the rules-monkeys answer the question, methinks.

It's my understanding that *only* the faction symbols listed on the S/A can benefit from it. Therefore splinter factions can make formations with their parent faction but cannot with their parents alliance faction.

I'm sure someone else can chime in with the exact ruling, I play faction pure so I'm not the best person to field this.

When building your force remember that rules laid down in AOD follow through up to the current sets....meaning that Grand Alliances may change but UNLESS STATED house alliances remain in effect. This means that for this question (Cat and Kurita) YES Kurita can form with a Spirt Cat. House Kurita has a grand alliance with Nova Cat and each has a house alliance with their splinter factions...this means that ALL 4 ARE ALLIES AND CAN FORM MOVEMENT AND COMBAT FORMATIONS WITH EACH OTHER.

the way we see and play it that all they need to be in contact with an ally (house/grand alliance)

example a sc unit in base contact with a nc unit can make a formation with a hk one but a sc and hk cant

same goes for df,hk and nc,

I would like a second person to confirm this as i have heard differently. what you are saying is DF units can form a formation with a SP or CNC units? i just want to confirm this.

still spiritcats have no alliance with HK /dragons fury none with CNC , the way i see it they can only make formation with direct allies
the whole group can make formation as long as its like DF-HK-CNC-SC

if i read the above it sorta states that DF and SC still have a grand alliance
and you can make armies out of SC-HK somehow doesnt make sense to me.

Read this thread. It deals with a lot of the same issues and basically confirms that yes, factions House Allied with factions allied with a Grand Alliance can form on each other. So Spirit Cats and Dragon's Fury can join their mommies and daddies and all be one big happy gun-toting family.
