Well he's huge and expensive and basically a huge sniper. You'd need to build the rest of your force up as a reasonable threat and with some harassers so the King can take his shots.
His dial isn't super deep for his points but he's got a good defense, run him around on his own and pick your targets while the remaining force tries and deals with another portion of their army. Let them choose which they want to deal with and then attack with the alternate from both sides.
i just picked up one of these recently, i just havent used him yet. he is great against capture armies because of command and battle fury and he has ram and range. of course you cant levitate him, but then again you cant magic blast him behind a wall. but support is the way to go with him i think.
I've used him with two Rotary fusers and a Mancatcher. It worked for me. Those Rotary fusers are tough little dudes and the Mancatcher was an effective harasser which allowed the King to pick his targets.
Mountain King is pretty good as far as i'm concerned. 12" speed with ram, 12" range, and 4 damage all the way down the dial. He's a bit pricey, but in 400+ games, worth the cost in my opinion. Too expensive for 200-300 though.
Yea, the 4 damage all the way through is certainly nice, unfortunately, (at least last time i looked at him) you need a decent attack to use the 4dmg, which his drops off rather quickly. I Dont particularly like him, but that is because i played against one and it dd not do very well. Of course, thta could have just been the player who controlled the Mountain King. Who knows, maybe if i played him myself it would serve as a better judgement, but i just dont like playing with figures that ive seen lose.( dont post saying, " oh well i guess you hate shades because they die) That is obviously not what i meant. Some figures are meant to be used as harassers, they serve then die. I dont think a Mountain King is meant to be played in this way(duh).
I've killed a striker before. Do I have grounds to say the striker sucks?
Definitly Not.
Maybe you were the better player in that match, or maybe your opponent wasn't the best.
Getting back on topic, I agree with mighty_cell in that I think he is a nice fig with sweets stats and SA's, but he has limited effectiveness in games under 400 points. You can try it out, though, and with the right support you may be able to win with him.
