I've been fiddling around with some charge and bound based armies lately, and I'm really starting to like them. I'm also trying to stay away from uniques in my builds (aka Solonavi Striker, Elemental Glade Mystery *sniffle*), just because these are currently things I'll have to trade a fig or two to finish building.
Since the 300pt version is just an expansion on the first, I'll list the 200 first:
Bound-Fire/Lightning, Bound-Shockwave, Charge-4Dam, and Charge-Healing. Solid force and versatile. Then my own recent addition to many armies:
14 - Graverobber *
20 - Faith Healer **
199 Total
I don't need opinions on the value of these two figures in the back court. If I lose a 47pt gunner while dropping out 70 points in figs, I'm still up points when I bring him back into the game. It's nice to end a battle with 199pts for surviving figures, less math to do. The most glaring weakness is having a high attack value of 10. *shudder* But without putting in a unique, it's going to be hard to do better.
The 300 point version just increases the weapons (which I feel are the gunner & reaper) count, and upgrades the healers (I couldn't fit Faith Healer *** in the 200pt army or I would have. 22pts for a 9atk healer is great if you ask me.
You are right about your weakness in the high attack department, and since you don't have any formations you might have trouble against those uniques with high defenses.
The Graverobber is a nice touch. I played against a guy who brought his Dwarven Stomper back TWICE. I won the game when time was called, but that was a horrible experience.
One other thing, and I may be wrong on this one. I don't think you get survivor points for figures that have been necromanced back. Anyone know for sure?
A fig must survive the entire battle for it to count toward victory points. now a necroed figure like that brought back at the right time could be huge in a game. I have had a gatelord brought back on me and if it had been played a little more aggressively it would have been worht the pts.
I read you don't want to use uniques , fine
I think putting a Corrupted Priest instead of the Revenant
and a ***Heavy Lancer instead of the Champion
will work as well and even save you 53 points.
I've got a Corrupted Priest, but he's not a charge/bound model, so it doesn't fit with my theme. I'm honestly trying to hit 4 and 6 loner figs actually... I know a really big unique can be a problem, but I'm wanting to use extreme mobility to stay on the move for hit-n-run tactics. I've already reworked the army dropping my idea of no uniques, because my Elemental Glade Mystery is literally screaming from on top of my computer (keep uniques on display) to put in the best bound-heal around. So I'm dropping the nightmare banshee... I don't have one, I don't have any other armies that would use one, and I'm just not seeing the shockwave being very useful in comparison to fire/lightning.
By the way, every source I've looked at shows the Nightmare Reaper *** at 45 pts, even MKRealms. The ** is 42, right?
The lancer hits hard as hell and has 4 clicks of charge, the gunner is the one of the strongest 10" range bounders, and the glade mystery is a fantastic ranged healer. The medic serves as the backup healer, and I took a tough to fill out points, and snag an extra point of defense. I've borrowed the figs to play this one, and I was quite happy with that game (vs sniper/elf demi deathstar). It was able to engage everything on it's own schedule.
The 300 point version was quite simple, again I'm just boosting my weapons count, which I saw as the gunner and lancer. Two more of them, and low and behold room for Yeoman Podo again!
I don't have access to enough stuff for the 300pt army, but I'm very impressed with the 200pt version from that battle. Plan to play a bunch more in the next couple days.
