Deal a Chaos Mage four clicks of damage. He's got necromancy and magic levitation, the same combination that makes the zombie baron so wonderful. Sure no LI, no necro-to-full-health ability, low speed, attack, damage, and defense. But a special-ability combo is a special ability combo, and on the Chaos Mage's fifth click it is there [and 42 pts cheaper than the Zombie Baron]. Just a thought, not actually proposing this as a generally acceptable replacement.
The problem with this is if you push you are out of luck. To get to this spot on the dial you would need a lot of shockwave or you could risk letting your opponent attack you but that could prove fatal:( .
Its not MI and necromancy that makes the zombie baron great, its the whole package. the ZB has LI, range, necromancy, and LI, and thats what makes it a true powerhouse, and all for 82. Plus it has command, stealth, and regeneration, and the ability to be brought back to life at full strenght. I agree that the choas mage is a monster in and of itself, but i hate to use it just for that click, that kinda defeats the point of the choas mage. Just my thoughts
I agree with Blood_Star19. Using the Chaos Mage just for that one space seems like a waste to me. Plus you have to find a way to get him there. Either letting an enemy attack you and hope you get to the required number of clix, or push the #### out of him. The ZB is a total package. If an opponant Bases you, ML them away, right into the lOS of a big hitter!! BLAMO!
actually, ML+necromancy is not that great of a combo.
This is true, and I wish 42up would have expanded on it instead of just posting the useless one-liner.
Magic Lev. coupled with Necromancy on the same fig isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, it's the all incorporated bone toss engine all wrapped up into one fig, but the basis of the bone toss is that you can do it quickly over and over again. If you want to accomplish this with the Baron, you'd have to push every time, and you could only do one skellie every three turns...
Ithink it has been said before, what makes the ZOmbie baron so great, is the combination of LI and ML. Necro, command, "zombie" and Range attack are jsut more ways to make him powerful.
ML necro is not that great since it would take you 2 turns psuhing with the CM or ZB to do it. when you can add 25 points for a samber turn ML
I have seen Necro engines with grave robber, faith healer, and Technomancer. for about 50-60 points, and musch faster then a heavily wounded Chaos mage
The Zombie Baron is great because of the LI, the Necro, the Command, the ML, all for only 82 points. It's also a great heavy hitter. And can be Necro'd back to full strength. If I was going to use him in a Bone Toss, I'd DEFINATLY have a Grave Robber, or two there to necro figs back. Pushing the ZB is OK, but why if you don't have to?
I wouldn't say that the Chaos Mage is a bad figure, no way.
It's one of the most difficult figures to play correctly, but it's pretty cheap for the points cost, and I think the little guy is very effective when properly used.
BTW it's almost impossible to compare the Zombie and Chaos Mage. They are completely different, with different purposes and abilities.
Anybody plays Chaos Mage trying to reach a certain click, with certain abilities. His starting slot has good abilities, and decent stats, pushing him to reach an ability sounds like a bad idea to me.
The Zombie Baron is a strong unique, and the Sect deserved one. It's pretty fun now playing NS, thanks to the Baron and some of the latest nons.
What was I thinking even to SUGGEST that the Chaos Mage be useful for his necro/ML click? That's the thing, I wasn't thinking. The thought just occured to me and I figured I might as well entertain the MKRealms community with one of the most carefully pondered comments on the game since the creation of this forum.
I admit, the second sentence contains some poor choice of wording (good thing the post was so well thought-out), but it refers to repeated comments from my friend which equate to "ML and necromancy is the best combination ever". I was actually looking for some kid in the same mindset as my friend posting something like "Wow, you're right! I'm going to trade my Zombie Baron for a Chaos Mage right now!", but instead I all I got was some flames from Warlords.
