I was wondering, are there any good stategies for the Atlanteam ram? I was thinking about getting one and then i say its stats and it doesnt seem to good at all.
The chariot is fun using. Spinning and causing ram damage can be effective in certain situations, and double ram can really knock a figure down. The chariot also provides more protection for the passenger than the other chariots. Of course, it should not be used in 200 point armies.
The Atlantean Ram is the best - even in 200 point games! The Charger is only for hit&run while the ram can reap through opposing armies, almost without help from the passenger (I have done it one against a weaker opponent *g*).
The big difference is the front section and the instant double damage - possibly against multiple targets. This is most often better and saver then a 4@10. A prudent opponent will make sure that your first strike can't target a key unit. While this is also true for the Ram (but not so easy, beacause your front section can deal up to 5 damage) you will notice the difference in killing an imp and leaving your flank unprotected or ramming and Imp or Shade and steal the movement SA while the opponents harrasser now becomes your best friend.
You should also compare the deeper parts of the dials. The Charger is not very stable. If you don't kill your opponent in two 2-3 you are most likely dead
The charger is easily the best chariot, but being a poor college student (they can teach everything in a university but the concept of "disposable income") I went for the chariot I could trade for -- The Atlantean Ram. It is a solid chariot, but is lacking in some ways.
To start it is far easier to take down than the other chariots. Some would argue this as the Ram has more clicks of life on most dials, but the front loses speed way too quickly. If your opponent can get a couple solid hits on the front you'll be riding an Atlantean gimp rather than a chariot.
There is also the fact that the sides are god-aweful for attacking. They really suck. To counter the flaw of being able to actually hurt your opponent by attacking it with your chariot you need to utilize it's ability to double ram. Getting two rams on an enemy unit and then hitting it with your passenger can cripple most figures pretty well.
The Atlantean chariot has one notable bonus over the others -- the back of the Ram is the best place to put push clicks of any of the chariots. Some refuse to push a section with invulnerability, but this is just plain silly considering it takes as many clicks to get a single skull on the back of the Ram as it does to get 3 on the back of the charger.
To close, is it as good as the charger? Not in most cases. However, it is still fun to use and worth a try or two on the field.
Da moose summed it up nicely. I'll just add a bit.
In a 200-300 point game the KI charger is superior because of quickness. That free 10" move allows you so many more options to manuver and attack. The ram takes more actions to move which is offset somewhat by the ability to Ram. It's a decent chariot and can be effective. But if you're facing a lot of tougness or invul. than it's effectivess is lessened quite a bit.
charger still is the best chariot ever. i dont think using the atlean ram on 500 point army will work. sure thing u will be facing a much powerful multi dialed fig like a dragon perhaps.
