Hi all, I came to know MK in a local card shop quite some time ago and recently I suddenly have an idea of start playing the game. With limited resource, I will like to have a good start witht the game, can anybody give me some advise on what to get for my first pack of MK figures? Starter packs from the Unlimited or booster from Whirlwind or any other? Thank you for all the advises.
May ur warriors always score the critical hit.
Starter set from Unlimited gets you the rules, SA card, ruler and dice as well as ten figures. As an alternative, the rules and SA card are downloadable from the WizKids site: either way, these are must-haves. There are both good and less good figures in every expansion, so it depends on your interest: if you want to build formations of like figures stick with one expansion (Unlimited or Rebellion will get you the most figures fastest). If you're happier getting lots of different figures then spread it around. You can also get the Conquest book pack, which has the 4 Titan siege engines, 3 LE figures, and a rule book with ALL the rules for the base game, Conquest, and all the different types of multi-dials.
Unlimited is a great set, you can get most of the best single-based nons from Lancers and Rebellion, plus there are some great uniques, like summoner, hammerskald, troll knight, eldritch drac, bladesmith drac, zombie baron...the list goes on. Unlimited is overall a very nice set. Other than that, Rebellion is second-best to buy, but is sometimes hard to find
I agree. Get an Unlimited Starter first. If your luck goes any bit opposite of a 'regular' MK Gamer, then you may get a usable Unique out of the starter (my first Rebellion Starter gave me a Mystic Draconum)
Good Luck, & enjoy the world of Mage Knight:D
<did a dairy farm explode nearby? This post is just dripping with cheese:p>
It's not a bad idea to get a starter just so you have a nice Special Ability Card and ruler. Don't trust those dice though.
After that, you may want to consider buying single figures. There are several good online hobby stores where you can buy individual figures for good prices. This way you can focus on the factions you like, and you won't get stuck with a pile of junk that you can't even trade away.
Look at it this way: if you buy boosters you pay $1.00 apiece for your figures (give or take). If you only like 1/3 of the figures you pull (which is probably a high estimate) you are actually paying $3.00 apiece for good figures. For non-uniques, you can pay anywhere from $0.29 (for junk figures) to $6.95 (for awesome figures like *** Amoteps) at the online stores. On average, you will come out ahead if you buy singles.
The only problem is uniques, which tend to be pretty expensive at the online stores. But that's what eBay is for!

I agree with that, one of my friends pulled a Regal Draconum in his very first unlimited starter. Since then, he has pulled 2 Maelstrom Golems and a Whelp Master from unlimited. talk about your beginner's luck:eek:
Thanx all for the replies. I guess I'll first get a starter set. And the next important thing is find a playing gang, I hope that there're ppl playing MK at my local card shop.
