when you steal treasure is it random? Or do you get to pick a particular chest (i.e. steal the chest w/ jassads arm)

Random--place all treasure together and select one. No looking though. :D

In scenario 1 of the August Campaign, whenever you open a treasure chest, roll a dice. On a 5 or 6, the contents of the chest have been replaced with the Arm of Jassad, which gives the bearer the equivalent of 1'000 gold, & boosts to a lot of his abilities, with SA's attached (Stealth & Vampirism come immediately to mind).

Prlockman is right. It's totally randomized which chest you steal from an opponent.
