in the week 3 campaign of the vamp civil wars, i played an opponent who had a ranged combat formation consisiting of 3 troll gunners and a wild mountain troll with 2 demi behind in b2b for enhancement. Would the 4 trolls be considered a ranged formation, even though they all arn't of the same faction?

The Troll Gunners are cross faction AG/EL the Wild Mountain Troll is EL. The Trolls could be in a formation only if they were using EL formation and the Demi-magus were moved separatly. I believe that is the only way they can use a ranged combat formation. The Demi-magus then would only be able to make a ranged combat formation if the Troll Gunners were used as AG. Cross Faction figures can only move or attack when all the charaters share a sinlge faction.

The four trolls is a valid formation, but the Demi-Magi have to take a separate move action.

The Demi-Magi can't move in formation because:
1) Cross-faction figs can only be in a faormation with figs that share a common faction symbol. This means a formation CANNOT have both Atlantis Guild and Elemental League figures, but must have one or the other.
2) A ranged combat formation can only be compsed of 3-5 figures, and the Magi push the limit to 6.

Also note that the 2 Demi-Magi, since they aren't part of the formation have to each take an action to move, meaning this whole party of figs takes 3 actions to move.

The whole formation would've been a lot greater without the Mountain Troll. I hope this clarifies things.

It would take 2 actions to move the entire group; one for the 2 demis and a gunner then 1 for 2 gunners and the wild one.

The 4 trolls could form a ranged group or one of the Demi's as primary using Magic Blast and the 3 gunners as contributors could form a group.

Basically, as long as all the figures you're using in a formation action share the SAME faction symbol, it's legal.

All the trolls can participate in a formation together.
The Troll Gunners can participate in a formation with the Demi-Magi.
However, the WMT cannot participate in any kind of formation with the Demi-Magi.
