Well, the first questions is: how much do you value your friends? Because they won't be after they see you put this on the table.
It's very tight, so I can't think of too many changes to make. I do agree that Frostriven is the best choice of chariot passenger, and the harassment that you have to drop to get him to level 4 makes level 3 the right choice.
As far as challenges for this army:
HOST/LOST/LOST is bound to show up eventually, can out-shoot you pretty comfortably.
GFD/LOST might be interesting. The GFD has a 32" move/double shot in 3 actions, and if it can land the first shot on your HOST, you probably won't be able to keep up.
Charge swarm. If played carefully, the Swarm should be able to get into charge range before you can indirect fire on the FM'er, and can be arranged so that the chariot can only base one figure, allowing the rest to charge in at full strength.
Personally, I recommend removing jarl and replacing him with *** Throttle Worms. This frees up points for the Animated Mud swarm.
Ok, ok, just kidding. Borg, I agree with the above posts. How you you get anyone to play with you? If you lived near me I would either improve my game considerably, or give up playing MK out of frustration! LOL.
I do have a question or two. First what, if anything, have you playtested it against? I think it would be solid, but there are a few opening s that could be exploited.
This leads to the second question. What would you do vs. ML armies in their various incarnations? I can see how you take care of the standard yo-yo and ML/rams fairly simply with a straightforward move and shoot to take out the MLer, but a well played bone toss might mix things up a bit as it could tie up the stonethrower long enough to take a whack at the chariot. Bone toss is not my army type of choice so I may be overstating the case in it's favor, but I was curious.
Also, without going into a turn by turn breakdown, generally what would you do sitting across from the HOST,LOST,LOST army? It would seem to do most of what you can do only more of it.
mstorch you make some very good points.
(The Bone-toss counter came up on our private forum as well)
I played this army (two different versions) for the first time last friday , but the two games I played were not against "championship" armies , I must say.
They did include Chargers , Bounders and Rammers though.
But suffice to say , Chariot/OST won both games.
Going up against a Three OST army would be very tough , I guess.
I'm sure I would use standard terrain piece C , the big Brush (8-form) to hinder their bounding ability and approach while not really hindering the Chariot.
Trying to split them up could be essential I guess ,
So that they can't take multiple shots on the Chariot when it approaches 1.
The fact that the OSTs move real slow and consume a lot of actions should be in the Chariot's favour as well.
Their big bases are not so handy and they may have serious movement problems if trying to stick closely together.
That's what the Chariot should possibly try to exploit.
However , if played well and able of staying nicely together ,
I think the Three OSTs should win.
But that leads us to the next point.
The bone-toss as a possible counter.
It seems to me that the slow three OST army is much more vulnerable to a bone-toss than the mobile Chariot ,
where the Chariot and Jarl can take turns in removing bugs.
As soon as an OST is pushed , a rain of bones could/will probably become lethal.
Don't even think of using another OST as a "Charger" ,
that doesn't work (because of those huge bases they can't get around).
The fact that an OST can only break for 4 inches , means its practically standing still from that moment on
and if an OST pushes , it essentially loses much more points for that pushed away click than the other player loses for the loss of his Skeleton.
(note : you can give up 8 skeletons = 80 points
and still be on top after killing a LOST = 84 points)
Another thing that the three OST army may suffer against big time is : LI.
The Chariot/OST army should have less hindrance from that.
This is an army (untested) which I think could be a nice counter to all the Striker/Chariot/OST armies out there ,
and be COMPETITIVE against the rest of the field as well.
(I'll post it in a new thread as well) :
Flying Moose and Endrick(in PM) pointed out to me that having a lvl5 Jarl was probably more important to the army than having a Heavy Stonethrower , since Jarl was going to end up in the thick of things for sure and he could definitely use some extra clicks so that one successful "hit and splash" would not render him useless.
And although those three first clicks on a Heavy Stonethrower are super , a LOST remains a powerful (support) fig as well.
i won a 200 point tourney with KI, LOST and digger. The units can take a ton of clicks and keep dishing. This 300 point version is altogether stronger still and has some interference. How does it fare against dragons?
