i haven't seen or heard of this sense i started a the realms so i was just wonderin if im on to somthin or it happened a long long time ago so simply put how come no one is playin a boomer formation with a amazon and shield maidens doin a chain d?
you can get 3 boomers in base contact with the amazon! why do you want the shield *yuck* maidens! you would just be wasting points!
now in conquest you could get 10 boomers in formation and then the amazon with a line of shield maidens in the back, it still is a lot of wasted points but I can see the use for them here...
If you can spare the action, you could use an eldritch draconum, then you could heal, enhance, and give them all 19 defence + Battle armor as opposed to only 17.
well the thing is, the concept is nice. except that why go for a chain like that when you can actually have one that has 12 range with enhancement? that is why troll gunners rock in the chain defense section
although if you do want to play that in conquest.. here is a suggestion
B - BP Boomers
E - Elven Demi Magus
use it in a formation like this
B B B B B B B B B B
E E E E E E E E E
EGM
although you can change the EGM to an RLD
this way you have a front line with 22 defense against ranged attacks and 20 against close combat. with the capability for 4 clicks of damage per booomer at range of 10"
Well, the question is... why would you want to do a chain defense?
You'd want at least 3 boomers to formation attack... this means at least 2 shield maidens if you're keeping the line staight (necessary for range). That's 2(16) + 3(22) + 77 for the Amazon Queen for a total of 175 points. For that you get a formation that can do 3 damage with a 13 attack in rebellion or 5 damage with an 11 attack in conquest with a defense of 19 vs ranged and a magic blaster backup.
Compare:
----------
2 *** Steam Golems
2 *** Khamsin Fusers
5 points less, you get 1 less defense vs range on the steam golems, but toughness, a deep dial, and 4 damage. This formation can do one attack of 4 damage with a 15 attack in rebellion or 6 damage with a 13 attack in conquest plus an extra 11 attack for 4 damage in both (extra steam golem).
2 * Steam Golems
4 *** Khamsin Fusers
1 point more, you get 2 less defense vs range, but toughness, a deep dial and 4 damage. This formation can do two attacks of 4 damage with a 14 attack in rebeliion or 6 damage with a 12 attack in conquest.
------
Frankly, I would much prefer to have either of these formations than boomers with 19 def vs range and a magic blaster backup (not to insult boomers or the Queen... they rock, I just think this concept, while quaint, isn't an efficient use of points, even in a BPR army).
I agree that the Steamers + Khamsin Fusers are very strong in Conquest and they move faster than the Boomers, too.
I would also consider replacing one Steam Golem with a Wrath Golem in the formation for the option of flaming an incoming enemy formation.
The Boomers arent bad either though, because of their low point cost you can afford to add Sham-Rin.
