I was thinking about this figure. At lvl. 4, he has LI, 12 attack, 3 damage, and 3 targets (albeight at an 8" range). He would be a great fig to ML behind enemy lines. Bring up an obvious target like Striker straight on, and toss him behind. They deal with the main threat and Jess takes potshots. However, at 60+ points, he is a big chunk of your 300 point army. Putting on the pressure with only 5/6 of you points left would be difficult.
Jess Blacklock is like a mammoth sized warrior sprite. He's a decent fighter with a high attack and reasonable damage. Rather than levving him behind enemy lines, I'd use him much as I would any other LI unit ( depending on the situation ) - as a shield against the range of other units.
Of course, if you're dealing with bound or the accursed OST, yes, I'd send that thing out there solo. No use trying to block lines of fire versus bound or indirect fire.
I played against Jess Blacklock this weekend.
He didn't do too much though.
He didn't get killed cause I just ignored him until the end of the game , then I whacked him with my Horned Krugg.
Jess' range (8") is just too short to be much of a factor.
Also with 8" range he can be charged, I pretty sure that if he sets up for a shot on a 6" or better charger then he'll just get charged. So someone could set up three chargers like horned hacthetkruggs up at just 6" away and what do you do? Take a shot and then get charged by the other two? Not saying he's useless but that 8" range really hurts him.
Playing against a opponent like Corpy, 4 clicks of LI or 1 click makes absolutely no difference, if he scores in close combat on his first or second click, goodbye LI. I am not saying Windy is useless, quite the contrary, but Jess definitely has his uses. Against players with a higher defense, say Corpy, with Windy you would have to roll at least an 8 to score a hit. With Jess, a 6. Those 2 points can make a major difference. That was the point i am trying to make...
Okay so LI is good against corphy, thanks for the tip, but what are you gonna do about the other armies? Particuliarly charge heavy armies? Hope they don't show? Hate armies are a bad idea, unless everyone and their brother plays the army the hate army is designed to counter because it is normally so focused that it can't cope with armies that are radically different form tyhe army the hate army is designed to counter.
Also I agree Jess has his uses but you have to know what a piece can't do as well as what it can do.
