I looked at the stats of the OST and it's pretty strong. I've been thinking on how to beat them. Can someone help me or just give me ideas on how to beat them.
Can chariot beat them?
I'm using necro figs, is there a chance that i can beat an OST?
or just fight with an OST?(fight fire with fire)
Chariot is a strong choice though you've gotta understand that its going to get a few shots off at you before you can base it.
The best way is to base it with something, if it starts the turn in base contact it can't do the double move or move/shoot, keep it tied up and swarm it. Its Defense isn't overly impressive versus melee.
I haven't yet tested this, but I believe it's worth trying.
Use some blocking terrain, to force the OST to fire indirectly. Put in your army a Fell Reaper *** and a War Hatchetkrugg ***.
Ram it with the krugg and follow with the Reaper in the same turn, placed more than 90 degrees from kruggs point of contact. OST Attack will fall from 12 to 11 (assuming HOST, not LOST). The OST will have to choose whom
to put in its front.
During OST's turn, this figure (let's suppose it's the krugg) will probably take a beating (5 damage).
Next turn, disengage with the krugg and attack with Reaper (for 4 damage). OST won't be able to hit you in the following turn, since its arc was facing krugg and it cannot turn and attack because it's in base contact with Reaper.
After that, fly with Reaper away, since it will probably have been hit in the meantime.
Obviously, you will have to:
1) harras your opponent Chargers/bodyguards;
2) have some healing for Krugg.
Well, it's only an idea, but it's worth testing.
I believe the key is: base HOST with 2 heavy attacker, placed more than 90 degrees separated.
The chariot doesn't work, i've tried it... although, i was playing against a guy who had like 9 magic enhancers on his OST. With double range he blasts you for 11 clicks... and the chariot can't handle it.
I say you swarm pincer it. Take some KI fellows with soem standard bearers...it's rumble time!
although, the OST is ridiculously under-priced. How do they determine point values for these things? "out of 10000 people, only about 178 are willing to play orcs...so will price it about there."
As the guys mentioned.. bone toss is probably the way to go.... that is... if your oppoets did not pack chargers or rammers. which is often the complimentary choice of OST. Capitalize on th OST's lack of ability to heal..... Chariots are tricky to use against an OST. Usually the OST will use blocking terrain to impede the assault of your chariot. I have seen these happen to a great extent a lot of times :(
A OST behind blocking isn't nearly as bad, they've gotta use indirect fire so you take less damage and it makes it harder to hit. Sadly those Chariots don't have overly high defense to begin with.
A OST with 9 Enchancers, I wouldn't really call that a fair assessment of the OST vs Chariot battle. With that much fire power a few good shots from the OST and the Chariot is very crispy toast.
Fighting an Ost with another ost is probably your best bet. If you can use two shades, one always blocking his line of fire to you it will help. move a shade out of the lof then fire and move another one in.
In larger armies, a krugg and a bunch of levitators will totally do it in.
In smaller battles when you don't have an ost, it is pretty nessesary to base it with at least two figures and then charge or ram it. IE, tie it up with a couple of shades and then charge it with cavaliers.
I also think that a nice band of blade golems and one healer would work well but I haven't tried it.
The easiest way to take down an OST is to use a Thunder Golem, paired with a shade. Make sure the shade is right in front of the Thunder, this way, if he tries to shoot the shade, you can still in range to shoot him. Even the OST needs a 10 when using indirect fire on a Thunder. Swarm also destroys the OST, as I have it done a few times.
