Since the almighty Balduvian knows all and tells all, I'm sure he must have come across this situation before and thus knows the correct ruling. I had never had to deal with this situation before and the warlord I was facing wasn't sure and the presiding warlord didn't know either, so he declared a roll-off. I actually decided to just let him do it, but he chose not to anyway since it wouldn't have affected the outcome of the battle anyway. What? Oh, I guess I should tell you what I'm talking about so Balduvian can expend about one quarter of one percent of his brainpower in answering it.
My FoT had it's Front/Side sectional dividing line aimed at my opponent's figure's center dot. On his turn, before this figure fired back at me, my opponent chose to ML/Ram me a couple of times since Toughness was gone. So now his rammer was in contact with my front section. His figure now chose to fire down my dividing line at which point I chose to direct the attack to the front section, which of course made it an illegal action. The question is, does my opponent get to automatically target my other section because the front would be an illegal target, or does the redirecting rule supercede and cause his attack to be illegal such that he cannot make an attack at all? I think I know the answer, but I'd prefer to get it form someone who KNOWS the answer. And I'll even share my ignorance here in public for all to laugh and gawk at, since it'll be more knowledge for the masses with all of the Conquest going on lately.
CRIPES! Never mind. I knew I had seen this before, but couldn't find it in the E&R. Unfortunately, right after I posted this, I found it in the MDF rules. At least I was right. But instead of deleting this post and hiding my ignorance, I'll leave it as a learning tool. It'll teach everyone this rule as well as teach them that even us veteran players/warlords/moderators can miss one once in a while. And I apologize for summoning the great Balduvian unnecessarily!
You never say what the correct answer was...maybe that would help? I would guess that the owning player can prevent the attack from ever happening because the "decides where it goes" supercedes, and I think that's what you said, but it isn't clear (at least not to me) from your post.
Sure it is. I said I redirected the attack to the front and then later I said I was correct. You just have to read through my entire rambling and then create a thread asking me what I meant, then it couldn't be any clearer. Is it clear now? ;>
Move the dragon to a location where the opponent's Stormy happens to be right on the line.
Use the force to get the opponent to run a melee figure into the front of the dragon.
When the opponent declares that his super enhanced Stormy is gonna blow the side of the dragon off - calmy explain that the shot is redirect to the front of the dragon, making it an illegal shot.
Use the force once again to get out of there when the opponent tries to strangle you.
Actually, I was quite surprised when he did that, as he is also a warlord and I thought he would know that rule. But then even I couldn't remember where I'd seen it. And since he also didn't realize when moving a formation that each figure in contact must make a successful breakaway rather than just one breakaway for the entire formation, I guess it's not so surprising he didn't know such an obscure rule. The other warlord I beat in the tournament was also not a master of MDFs yet, so I guess we all need a little schooling in how these behemoths function now and then, or else you may fall prey to my Jedi Mind Tricks too!
