I needed a 26 point figure for an army I was making lately, and my search turned up a figure that I liked a lot right when Sinister came out, but have since all but forgotten about. The Trog. It has venom and toughness, which makes it a perfect choice to base mounted figures in the rear arc, since they won't take shake-off damage. They are immune to ram as well. Assuming they are in the rear arc of a mount, the Trog's modified stats become 10 attack with 3 damage...for 26 points! That's pretty good to me. Does anyone else have thoughts on this figure? The army i am using it in now is an EGM army. If she gets rammed, I will base the rammer with a trog and also hopefully charge it. That will give it a couple things to think about. The standard version is more durable for only 3 points more. I think this could be a very useful piece in today's automatic damage environment.
I've only used them in Conquest. They go well in a Venom Pod (3-4 Throttle Worms, 3-4 Trogs, Bondmaker). Everyone forgets that they shoot at 4. And if your opponent concentrates on the TWs, the Trog hits him. And if he concentrates on the Trog, the TWs stay around forever and poison them to death. It's Win-Win.
I think 42_Up is a big advocate of trogs. I remember him saying that he was collecting has many as he could for conquest battles. You may want to ask him about his experiences in using them.
Yes, Kenntak, and I also remember him saying something about the LE, Bek. It seems like 42up likes it too.
I was interested in Trogs when sinister came out, but I just couldn't get three of four to test them in formation, like Frenzy mentioned. My initial idea was to make a conquest formation with hambulandroika, marching them at 12''.
I have seen few armies using them, would like to know more about battle reports with them. The abilities are interesting.
I would say the Trog is best to intermix one or two with the lovely Throttle Worms. A Shyft with 2 Worms and 2 Trogs has roughly the same venom ability as one with 4 Worms, costs only marginally more, but the two Trogs give the formation the potential to ATTACK. Remember, the Worms can always assist in a formation attack, and boost the Trogs attack to 11 (12 in rear).

Trogs are pretty good....but one big let down is that they cannot capture :(
I like the toughness, good attack, venom, range combo....seems a bit overwhelming. The only thing that hurts them is a Sweeper.
Also a charger is a good idea. to kill a trog.
All good points. However, what I am specifically speaking about here is using one Trog to tie down or harass mounts. I used one weak one today to base both a War Hatchetkrugg*** and a Horned Hatchetkrugg*** in the rear arc. I know it may be too slow to be called a harasser like the other ones, but what would the opinion be on using just one to harass a mount that gets too close to the rest of your army?
I've been using Troggs for some time now. They are very overlooked, but are also excellent and effective units, very cost-efficient, as far as figs go.
We were discussing the Trogg in this thread some time before. I just recently fielded some Troggs in a tourney and did well with them. The link to the battle report can be found there.
