I plan to play for the Necropolis sect since I played for the EL in a campaign last summer. Would appreciate anyone's input:
Zombie Baron
2 x ** Fell Reapers
** Solonavi Channeler.
Pt total: 199
Terrain: 1 blocking & 1 hindering
The plan is to advance the 3 NS figures up in b2b contact to the blocking terrain. Keep the MH'r back but in range. When my opponent makes an action ML or ML/Fly one of the Reapers up for b2b contact. After an attack (if successful) repeat, or breakaway and get healed. I will bring out the ZB as an attacker only if needed, but I hope to make the most damage with my Reapers.
I'm not that used to playing on the NS side, so if this strategy seems lame.....would appreciate constructive input. BTW I expect to see Stonethrowers or Amazon Draconums fielded by my opponents.
The terrain is pre-defined and it is thick with hindering terrain. You should NOT see and HOST or LOST. The Amazon Drac won at the the shop I play. Yo-yo and 5 clicks of piecing damage is pretty tough to beat without Limited Invisibility.
Be certain you leave space (perferably hindering terrain) ahead of your Reapers, in case someone rams your Baron. If they do, ML him into the reapers front arc, with hindering terrain to slow it, and see if you can knock off its toughness before it gets away.
I just looked at the Wizkids site again a few minutes ago and it doesn't say anything about predefined terrain placement. Only "Setting the Scene - Set up terrain per the Mage Knight Unlimited rules", and " 2) Any figure that ends its owner’s turn with any part of its base in hindering terrain takes 1 click of damage. Toughness and Invulnerability prevent this damage in the normal way. " What am I missing ?
I changed up one of the Fell Reapers for a Nightmare Reaper so that I could have a charger as bodyguard that also had toughness. I used a big pc of hindering terrain and a curtain wall (positioned about 4" away from the hindering terrain).
All of the matches were good and could have gone either way most of the way. I was extremely surprised and happy to find that no one played an Amazon Draconum or a Stonethrower. Everyone's army was creative and each was different. Lots of toughness.
I used my Zombie Baron primarily as a ML engine. Only occasionally did I move him up into an offensive position. I used my healer A LOT. My basic strategy was to move my 3 NS figures up to the curtain wall quickly all in b2b contact with the ZB. When the action tokens were cleared I ML the FR into b2b contact with my opponent's supporting figures. I tried to go for the healers first. If close enough I used the ML only. The next turn I attacked or pushed and attacked with the FR. If pushed I would likely take a hit or two on the FR. The next action I would break away and then run to heal. I would then be in position to do the same thing with the NR. I kept my healer about 8 " behind the ZB to provide MH. This was basically how it went most of the night. Attack, push, get banged, breakaway, heal. A couple of times my opponent b2b my ZB and I would ML it into hindering terrain or try to ML it so it could be charged. If all else failed I tried to break away. The Fell Reaper did the most damage tonight. A very powerful figure.
My last game was the closest and in question until the last few seconds. I played Thunderkitten, a great player, who always gives me a run for my money and more times that I would like to count has whooped my a**. She always comes with very unique combinations. Tonight was no different and she had me back on my heals during most of the match. I took her healer out very early which was the only thing I could do if I wanted any chance to win. Near the end of the match she captured my ZB (almost at full health).....Yikes. Luckly I had my FR at full health and it started in b2b contact with the captor. I hit and then she failed a breakaway. I pushed to hit again. On the next action she pushed and broke away. I eventually chased it down with the FR and was able to kill the captor to release my ZB with only about a minute to go.....
Bottomline, a fun evening, especially since no one played a cheese army.
