Well, as usual I've been working on my single faction Necropolis army. Here it is:
Order of Vladd - 96
Therenody - 75
Astrus L3 - 44
***Fell Reaper - 43
***Nightmare Reaper - 42
Total: 300
Terrain: 4 large pieces of blocking.
Tactics:
Too few figures you say? Well, this army is a kind of Necropolis GA/ Melee GA. I know that MGA isn't competitive at a tournament level, yet, but that won't keep me from trying it out...
Initially, move Vladd, Astrus, and the Fell Reaper in formation so that the entire army can move in one turn. Keep the figures close together since they support each other well. As is the Necropolis way, pick and choose your targets. It is best if you can use your force to gang up on a piece of your opponents forces, rather than just clashing head to head with armies. Use the mobility and the terrain to keep your figures from getting in too deep amongst enemy troops.
Vladd is the "big stick". Try to position him where he can attack pushed figures. This will limit your opponent from pushing too much with Vladd threatening.
Astrus is the main support figure, providing healing as needed to any of the other troops. With flight and toughness, keep him well away from danger, because he will be needed.
I tend to use Therenody mainly as a ranged figure. Sure he can charge, but in melee he may be vulnerable to capture. Use him to charge figures that cannot be shot.
The Fell Reaper is my main harrasser, able to move in quickly, and tie up Bounders or Chargers. I've even used it as a blocker to provide cover for Vladd. It also makes a great secondary attacker when you are pounding on an OST or some other large tough figure.
The Nightmare Reaper, though not one of my favourite figures, is very useful in a number of roles as well. He can provide emergency blocking/harrassment as needed, and can be a bodyguard for any of the other figures. Charge in if there's trouble.
Overall, the army has a lot of speed and toughness, and will require some more playtesting for me to get real familiar with it's quirks. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions you may have to tweak this army into perfection. Remember, Necropolis figures only...
Looks pretty solid to me as far as Vladd armies go.
I like all of your selections and reasonings/theme...except Therenody. Astrus seems amazing, a quality healer that the likes of the Sect have never seen before.
For 75 points, I just dont think Therenody is worth it. I haven't been around the game for a long time, but it just seems to much like a fancy Unicorn or Sislith Tracker. Those 75 points could be better spent on harassers/blockers...Maybe more fell/nightmare reapers or some shades?
I like it a lot, Im just worried that you will be overpowered in a 300 point game. Getting Vladd one on one matchups is hard enough, don't make it harder on yourself by having so few pieces in a 300 point match.
as much as i like the Nightmare as a sect supporter, i'd field this with a ** Horned Hatchetkrugg... 19 defence from range solid 3 attack and toughness in the middle.
Onslaught - Actually, Therenody is an amazing figure. Consider that the only other Necropolis figure that can Charge for 4 damage is Uhlrik Charger at 118 points. Add in the fact that Therenody has Toughness, Shockwave, Vampirism, and the highest range of any figure in the Sect at 12, and you have one awesome figure for 75 points!
runab0ut - I agree with your opinion about the Nightmare Reapers. They are so fragile for the points IMO. However, this is an all-Necropolis army, so the Horned Krugg is not an option. And having an extra high speed charger is not a bad choice to support the remaining troops. I wouldn't mind looking at other options for this figure, but they must remain in the Sect. I have, for example, considered a **Fell Banshee. Same points, lots of speed, but I lose a first strike Charger, and a point of attack.
i'd rather stick with the reaper... banshee is nice... but not that useful in dire situations when some1 bases your vladd or therenody or even Astrus. it'll give more options for you.
well... the dual shockwave could be interesting, though.
any suggestions if i want to change therenody(dun have therenody)???
rem. it has to be a necro. sect
i'm thinking of another reaper *** or fell ***
i would like to play.test this army ... and how it holds ...
Boosting Astrus to level 5 will not only increase his stats, but gives him ranged healing and Necromancy. Adding another ***Fell Reaper is never a bad thing either...
There are other configurations that involve the Uhlrik Charger as well...
Vladd is the bomb! My most recent strategy is to send him after the Protectors and mutilate all the healers before he zeroes in on the big guns. A recent creation teams him with a *** Corrupted Priest (AKA Mini-Vladd) and a ** Feral Bloodsucker for 200 pts of Vampirism and Carnage. Old school is so cool!
