in the 500 pt tournaments i play in storm and thunder golems are a common army build and they just go for the enhance and blast deal. besides the obvious LI what is a good way to fight these armys
Tie up their figs with inexpensive, expendable pieces to deny them range attacks. Meanwhile you attack other areas of their army or move in behind the "cover" of the harrasser.

in addtion to all other suggestions so far--magic blast. just be sure to set up some blocking terrain in key places... you want to keep it towards the middle, parallel with the starting positions.
try to out flank them. move forces down the sides, and get out of their arcs before approaching them. make you opponents waste actions on moving and changing their facing, instead of shooting at you. be sure you do this from both sides, and maybe even forces coming donwn the middle, right in plain veiw. the more options you give your opponents, the more likely they are to choose incorrectly.
the key is to make them all incorrect.
multiple hit figs are also king here. f/l and shockwave are both good, if you use the right figs for it. the wind minion would be great for it. =)
while the usual harassment could work (shades, mancatchers), the more expensive fell reaper would work nice due to his 14 inch movement.
ML could also help, either rammers (no toughness on either one, or the most likely enhancers), or use it to fling your shades or mancatchers.
Inexpensive autodamage will touch these guys in the right places also. Throw a venom fig into base to base with one then flank him with some nice, fast chargers. I recommend melee because both have really high defense vs ranged attacks. Although it is rare that I ever play them, a KI swarm could probably dispatch these guys pretty nicely, and you'll have the extra guys to get rid of the support too. Harrassers are almost a must. Melee is also good too because if they have no ranged attack, they have no really powerful single-hit-killattack, or multiple attack. Take some of this little advice and you will melt this cheese.
longer ranged bounders, ML'ed attackers and cheap harrassers are the key to beating these guys. They are sturdy as heck but go down fast when having to push constantly to over come the hoard, or after getting zapped from out of their range.
neither has toughness so a little ramming is almost a must.
i like to run a throttle around each side of a death star and venom away his support pieces
Three methods here. Use a Magus drac. surround by Crystal Protectors. This was you can get close to snipe out his possible share deffender and able to push and heal. This in a nice army in all du to magic imm. and limited inv.
Second is the yoyo. surround a minotaur mage with technomancers ram, have a line of lmt. inv. in front Magic blast first then magic lev. him to ram them, place back in huddle, next round push and add more ram clicks on them.
Third is using a magestone drac. you can easily put 2 demi magus to his sides then an elven demi magus in his back. on both sides of the EDM place a curroupted preist their with the emerald Glade? touching all three. now you have a bad a$$ flame lightining group. 4 clicks to one figure not to mention spread damage and on top of that multiple arrows.
Well hope this is of some use to you. :D
LI, if not LI ...
ML/RAM combo ...
venom ...
FELLS ...
or just the usual stalking skellies and have some fun :)
and i do mean ... lots of stalking skellies :)
[ag] Terrain. PLace your terrain in the middle of every open spot that you can. Blocking is best! Make sure you limit the ammount of area that these "Death Stars" control.
[ag] Magic Blast - AS MENTIONED, magic blast CAN work. Get a GOOD MB'er and some blocking terrain (since your avoiding LI) and PRAY they are stupid...
[ag] Harrassment (Mobility) - AS MENTIONED, get some FAST figures and either A.) use cheap shades or other 12+ movement to tie them down while you move in the Melee units or B.) use fast figures to close the distance and CRASH the walking pop cans! Stalking Skellies, Shades, Mancatchers, Fells, Nightmares, War Kruggs, etc...
[ag] Yo-Yo - AS MENTIONED, a yo-yo that can bound out and fire more than 14" is ideal. AD, Backus, etc...
[ag] Ram Gun (see also Venom) - AS MENTIONED, ML and Ram or Venom... You do the math...
[ag] LI - AS MENTIONED, You said other than, but I thought I would list it again... mobile terrain, but it will cost you...
[ag] Just good terrain placement and some strategy could get you a long way. But the tricks listed by the others (above) will yield the easiest and probably the most effective results! Good Luck! ;)
Well if you can spare 70 points all you need is a *** Throttle Worm and a * Technomancer. Ever see a * Demi magus try to hit a throttle worm with their measly 7 attack? It's pretty funny, especially since you have toughness and they are dealing out a whopping 1 damage.
Throttle worm EATS the support so bad it's not even funny.
The more worms, the faster the deathstar goes down.
flank them with shades,,, or use fell reapers....outrange...use crystal sprite and protectors or the classic windminion army:D
