since shadowrun turned into an action fig rpg, i've been resigned to get my sci-fi fix thru mk. hence, my desire to make an atlantean army [the most scifi faction in mk- i think] is this feasible?
ideally, i'd like an army with an emphasis on automatons, golems etc. robots by anyother name! keep in mind that i'm a newbie so some all 'round basic swissknife army of 300pts would b ok...
1. Shadowrun is still being produced as an RPG. The action figure game is just a seperate game. WizKids licensed out the print rights to Shadowrun and Classic Battletech to FanPro. You can find out more about the RPG at:
2. DON'T wait until uprising. The sooner you start collecting, the better. Start with, of course, the starter set.
3. Yes, it is possible to create a 'robot' army, but Atlantis isn't the only sect with 'robots'. The Black Powder Rebels have robotic golems as well, so feel free to mix and match.
Finally,
4. You'll want to do some trading and purchasing since several of the best robot-like peices are from sets that are no longer being made.
Those are usually the focus of any major "robot army". The Storm Golem and the stomper are Uniques, while the other two are non-unique and both avalible in Unlimited.
Now, AG has a host load of golems that are hit and miss.
Hits:
Battle Queen (** and *** star varity)
Wraith Golem (FL if your intrested in it)
Scouting Golems ( Great blockers - upper versions have quickness)
Fighting Atomoton (basic hard hitting melee)
Impailing Golem (pierce)
Malestrom Golem (Unlimited remake of Storm Golem - close combat beast, but low oppinion of usefulness by most).
Thunder Golem (good but slow unique)
Miss:
Brass Golem
Brass Commander (has command, but that's about it)
submersible golem (most consider them a horrendus blight on the MK world).
Whirling Golem (so much potential, but in the end, the Blade Golem is much more useful).
Ofcourse there are more techno looking peices out there. The scorp crossbow gunners and the soaring crossbowmen are useful too (both mounted figs out of lancers) and many other units have techno looking sculpts as well.
The guild is the place for you, with a little BPR golem flavor for varity. SHould be easy for you to get what you need.
I have had succes with armies consisting of Fighting Automatons, Scouting Automatons, Blade Golems, and Technomacers to levitate the Blade Golems.
In small (1200pt) conquest games I field armies entirely consisting of golems and robots, except for maybe 200pts of cyborgs (Technomancers) and Mechanics:D.
It is possible, and if you want techy stuff AG is the choice.
I love the scouting automoton...I think the weak one really shines...12" move, 8 attack for 2 damage....all for 15 points! Also, the sculpt is amazingly cool! :)
Conquest army that is almost all Golems/Automatons. It basically is--
Formations 1:
9 ***Blade Golems
**Magestone Lord
Formation 2:
9 **Fighting Automatons
**Magestone Lord
Formation 3:
9 **Fighting Automatons
**Magestone Lord
Throw in the Storm Golem as a Commander and some Scouting Automatons as harrassers and it's a neat looking army. The only humans are the enhancers and the Magus towards the rear directing his troops. If I add my Fist of Tezla, it looks even cooler.
I'd say don't limit yourself to JUST golems. Atlantis guild has lots upon lots of sci-fi. Lightning gunners, flamers, flying tanks, flying mounts, mechanical spiders. Even the grunts (utems) can fit into a sci-fi universe: they're the grunts who haven't yet earned their tech.
And don't forget, if a figure doesn't have enough tech to make you happy, convert them!
