Both are 500 pts. exactly. I know most of the rules for HOST, but I dunno bout Indirect Fire or can it shoot an LI figure? Any help would be excellent. Thanx.
LI Figures - No, The OST cannot target a figure with limited invisibility. It can shoot someone who's behind the LI figure, though. using the indirect fire attack.
Indirect Fire - The line of fire must pass through the firer’s front arc but is not blocked or hindered by the presence of intervening terrain or other units. The line of fire must not exceed the unit’s maximum range, or be less than the unit’s minimum range. . The defense value of the target of the indirect ranged combat action is increased by 2. If it hits, the target takes damage equal to the firer’s damage value minus 1. You can conclude that the indirect fire will work against damaged figures, or small figures, but not against your main figures while they're healthy.
If the Amazon Draconum is in legal range (between maximum and minimum) it is a perfectly legal target. In this case, the AD's defense gets + 2 and, if you miss the dodge roll, she will receive the OST's damage - 1.
Perhaps switch out the Creator and put in a Destroyer and a Thunder Golem and downgrade the Shades to *. This way you have some MB and some additional Pierce
Thunder Golem is good, but he's VERY slow. It takes away from the 12-14 inch mov't every turn. If I attack a HOST, he'll come after me w/ the other 3, so I dunno what to do.
The only figure that the OST cannot target (from range) with direct or indirect fire is the Zombie Baron. If the Shade gains Stealth and is positioned in or beyond hindering terrain, the OST would have to use Indirect Fire to hit it from range, but that wouldn't be much handicap to an OST (against the low defense and shallow dial of the Shade).
The remainder of this post does not strictly belong in the Rules forum, but since we're here already...
I wouldn't consider using the Thunder Golem even for a minute. He's too slow and cannot move and shoot. In a 500 point Unlimited game, each side gets 5 actions per turn. The OSTs can profitably use those 2 actions to move and shoot your static figures. They have an effective 16" reach. The ZB/AmDrac combo gives you a yo-yo with an 18" reach, but nothing else you have can touch an OST from outside its ability to hit you. If you move a Striker or Creator into their range, the OST can hit them. Admittedly, the Creator is hard to hit, but not all that hard. A healthy OST needs an 8, which is a 42% probability of hitting.
Terrain placement strikes me as more likely to favor the OSTs than your figures since the OSTs can shoot over it. The OSTs also strike me as more likely to be able to take better advantage of the 5 actions per turn since neither of you have very many figures and each OST could use 2 in a given turn (while others rest). Your figures can only use one action every other turn without pushing so you will wind up passing a lot.
Two of your figures (the ZB and Amazon Drac) are pretty fragile. If either gets hit (fails Dodge, in the case of the Drac), they're in deep trouble. Your other 3 big figs are solid for longer. Note too, that when a normal figure bases the ZB, the prefered tactic is to ML that figure somewhere to be shot by one of your other figures. You can't do that to an OST. Titan's cannot be MLed.
GA tactics are hard to use in the best of circumstances, but in 500 points, they are very hard. Against solid figures with the reach of an OST, I wouldn't even try. Once the OSTs get anywhere near the center of the board, they can hit you almost anywhere.
I think you need more harrassers to keep the OSTs from moving and shooting on their turn. The greatest weakness of Titans is to harrassment. What would I take out? IMHO, the ZB is probably the best candidate for that. I'd consider taking him out and using Autumn for a levitator. With the saved points, you could add a number of good and cheap harrassers. Even Ram Warriors are good here. You can move/toss them 18" from outside of the OST's reach and prevent the move/shoot option while you used other actions to bring in something that could shoot the OST once it's free of the harrasser (whether it moves away or kills the harrasser).
yup, those HOST's need to be tied up ... or else it would go rampant killing spree :( ... so you need cheap harassers ... namely RAM warriors * ... they are cheap and dispensable ... try to have a ram.engine with around 5-6 ammo ... or something :) just tie those HOST
