Based on the Aquatic and Defend ruling, does that mean that if a **Mending Priestess in base contact with a Troll Artillerist in hindering terrain, the Troll Artillerist would receive the a defense of 18 if the Priestess and the Troll were both hit by a multiple range attack (suck as the 4 x targeting ability of the Dwarven Thunder Gunner)?
Originally posted by Nukekitty Ooooh, good question, I would have to say yes. But an official ruling would be very nice on this. Have you posted this on the wk site?
No. Also noticed that I avoided using a F/L attack as an example. ;)
I also think this would work, though this of course isn't by any means an official ruling. But it makes sence that if the +2 defence from aquatic would be passed on then the hindering terrain modifier would too.
In the hindering terrain section, it says add 1 to the target's defence when you declare the attack. The way I interpret this, the troll and priestess would both get the +1 at the same time, then you would apply defend for the 17 defence of the priestess. But I could be wrong, an official ruling would be helpful.
almost the same as WC ...
now that would be ... 23 :) if in hindering terrain ... would it not? :)
18+2 = pearl in water(included in the multiple targeting of thunder gunner) passes 20 def to a fig with BA on hindering which raises it to 20+2(BA)+1(hindering modifier) =23
how about we make a SWAMP terrain :) which would have the hindering DEF modifier AND at the same time aquatic :) lol hehehe
Note that it says "add 1 to the target's defense value." The hindering modifier does not add to anybody else's defense value, e.g., the Priestess's when the Trolls are the target. So here, I don't think I see a new problem. I agree completely, though, that this would be a good time for WK to issue a clear clarification. :)
The way the Defend ability is worded combined with the wording of the Hindering and Fortifaction rules a figure with defend who is a TARGET of a ranged attack can share it's increased defense with ANY OTHER TARGETS of the THAT attack that are in BtB with it. So if the Mending Priestess is BtB with 2 trolls and is TARGETED by a F/L attack or one of Storm Golems 3 targets and the lines of fire go through hindering terratin, what SHOULD happen is; Mending priestess gets the +1 modifier (or substitute the Fortification bonus) to her defense which she then shares with the trolls, who then get to add the +1 to their defences. Ofcourse, the old, soon-to-be-out-dated E&R stated that the hindering terrain modifier could NOT be shared by Defend but it appears in this special circumstance it SHOULD be allowed as that is the way the rules are written and interestingly it has been like that from the begining. Ofcourse, it was never an issue because most players keep the Defender from being in a possition where it will be targeted and neither Hindering terrain modifier or Fortifaction bonus apply if the figure isn't TARGETED. The important difference with the new Aquatic rule is that it also applies if the figure is affected by the attack making the bonus available to figures "splashed" by F/L and therefore applicable to a situation that commonly occurs with Defend figures.
Getting back to this topic though, it gets even more interesting if I have 2 or more figures with defend in BtB and they are both TARGETED by the same multi-target attack where the LOF pass through Hindering Terrain. Eldrich Drac is BtB with a Mending Priestess when they are declared as a targets so Eldrich gets the +1 modifier which he then shares with the Priestess giving her a 20 Defense. She gets adds the +1 modifier for a 21 which SHE then shares with Eldrich, and if there was a third figure with Defend, in BtB with either of the other two and it was also targeted with the line of fire passing through hindering terrain, then it would take the 21 add it's +1 modifier for a 22 Defense which it could share with the other 2. This would continue as long as there were Defenders in BtB that were Targeted and entitled to any Defense modifiers (right now that would be a max of 4 as that is the most arrows any one figure has Gilgarsh, PID, Regal Drac. and the ever popular Thunder Gunners).
I had considered posting this on the MK site but was curious if any other players woud extrapolate from aquatic and arrive at the same conclusion.
What ever you do, remember to enjoy the new ML light MK world and in a few months you'll be telling the n00bs about the old days when ML was SICK, (ofcourse, I remember when it REALLY was OBSCENE!!!! butthat's a different thread).
