I was looking at the SA card recently, and I have a question involving shockwave and ranged combat formations. The question is simply, can I do both? The reason I see why I can't is possibly because the figures assist would be targeting themselves, but I'm not sure. You arrange the figs in like a mickey mouse head formation. With to 2 figures that don't have shockwave facing eachother and facing the other target. But I guess they can't target themselves. Please give me a definite answer to this scenario.
You can attack your own figures using shockwave. You can make a shockwave attack even if the only other figures in range are your own. If more than one target is within half of the range, then damage is reduced to one. Even if the opposing figure has Invul. they still take one click. So to answer your question, yes they can attack in formation with shockwave.
The answer to your question is on page 10 of the rulebook:
"Ranged combat formations can only be used when the attack is only going to effect a single target figure..."
The nature of Shockwave prevents it from being used in formation: friendly figures in range of the attack are targeted, the "single figure" rule is broken, so formation support is not allowed.
