Does your wife, significant other, or uh... imaginary super-model girlfriend ever refer to your armies of veteran killers and blood sated warriors as dollies? Is that grounds for divorce? Especially if you can't use the Dickens Village houses as terrain? Is the MK castle really just a doll house? Tell me it ain't so!
My mother called them baby toys, despite the fact she's met a few 40+ year old veteran wargamers at our gaming club!
"No jury in the world would convict me..."

OST 25:17 - "The path of the Tech Support is beset on all sides by the inequities of the moronic, and the tyranny of stupid men. Blessed is He who, in the name of low wages and good will, shepherds the idiots through the Valley of the Blue Screens of Death. For truly He is his brother's keeper and the finder of lost files. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who demand to see my supervisor.
And you will know I am the Tech when I lay my Opening Script upon thee."
some people like cars - and you can't really understand why - some people like crazy tv-shows - some people like stuff you would think worthless or useless
...
we like MK!
So if people don't understand why, don't care! You know that it is good and that You can enjoy it! So let them call it dolls or let them say other things - don't care! Use the time better and think of another way to beat your oponents army down!
Well, most of my friends that donīt play say I play with dollies (itīs not the same thing in portuguese, but equivalent) most of that which play use me as example to convince their non-playing friends and relatives, itīs no big deal.
"This guy plays and is older than me." or "He plays and is in post-graduation" or "Look he plays and is almost normal!"
Everytime I buy a pack my mom starts lecturing me on how i should spend my money better
MK is a hobby, some buy model ships some stamps, some hockey cards or coins. WE BUY MK BECAUSE WE ENJOY IT.
My parents call them this Polish word that translates to some cute word that you would call a soldier (i don't think there is such a word.)
I don't think that some ppl will ever understand that MK is a hobby.
There actually a story that rather sad if you think about it:
A boy, 13, made paper castles and soldiers athat he would play with in the attic. When his parents found out they called them paper dolls, teased him and punished him for wasting his time on such childish things. They made him watch as they gathered up all that he made and burned it. I forget what it's called.
And for some of you: if your girlfrined or b/f are saying they will dump you (or your got divorced if you've been married {I don't think that happened yet}) who cares , you you can't settle appart your diffrences that you can't be in a successful relationship.
Well, do you dress up your MK figs in the latest fashions? Do you comb or style the hair of your favourite warriors? Do you put your figs to bed at night and tuck them in? Do you have tea parties with them? Do you talk to your figs with a "cutsie" voice? Do the eyes close when you lay them down? Do they need burping? Do they stay in a crib or little-bed? Do you have a stroller for your MK figures? Do they need to be bottle fed? Do you hug them lots?
The answers to these questions go a long way to determining if MK figures are actually dolls. How many "Yes" answers does it take?
My Fiance plays with them too so she understands. Others call them little toys but that just shows their ignorance. Plus I prefer to call them weapons because they cause the ignorant one pain as they sail through the air and hit their head at high speed.
Many people I talk with don't really refer to them as "Dolls". But they do call them figurines sometimes. I have also heard the argument that I should spend my money better...but it's what I choose to spend my money on. It isn't like what I'm buying is affecting their life in any way.
You're screaming at your mom/friend/S.O., "It's not a game darn it!! It's an investment!!"
You have a set for the game, for display, and a third in a hermetically sealed vault for appreciation value.

Just out of curiosity, I decided to check dictionary.reference.com just to see the definition of the word doll. I got the following results:
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition:
A child's usually small toy having the likeness of a human.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary:
A child's puppet; a toy baby for a little girl
WordNet 1.6
a small replica of a person; used as a toy
at which I was surprized as I always assumed that to be a doll, the item in question required some articulation otherwise it was a figurine. Which, by the way, is defined as:
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition: A small molded or sculptured figure; a statuette.
WordNet 1.6:
a small carved or molded figure
Personally, I kind of assume they're game pieces as that's what I use them for...
