I was thinking today about making a huge troll army and I am trying to get the trolls to do it. The army will be all Elemental and it will be based on this.
Front Line(Three formations)
5 ***Troll Gunners(placed in increments along the line of trlls)
25**Troll Arties
Back Line
29 Elven Demi-magus(any flavor)

EGM gives 19 defense because of chain defend through the Elven Demis while the Troll gunners lead formation attacks and take out incoming formations. The whole front Line is not vulnerable to ram, venom or flame lightning and they all have 12 range. Just think 15 attack with 10 damage with 19 defense and toughness ahhh!
You need more support. LI figures like the Zombie Baron and the Vampiric Draconum could tear a hole in this army, and make you come to them, which is what you don't want to have to do. Also you should look out for Fell Reapers, they can get behind you and take try to swarm your support.
Basically watch out for a Necropolis Sect army I guess. Otherwise you're doing really well. Oh yeah, mix in some corrupted priests for the healing among the elven demi-magus', you're going to need more than the one healer.
I was going to do that it is just an idea but thanks for the corruoted Priest idea. I will probably have some chargers floating around for good protection against LI.
This army is very slow and won't fair to well against guerilla armies, or long range/LI armies. It looks like it would look cool though.

I know the Zombie hound is sect but its the only 20 pt charger.
With uprising i will probablt switch out eh EMG for a forest nymph and some crytal protectors.

I would actually be scared of being flanked by fast-moving formations, such as chargers, or FM formations which could bwe able to bypass your frist line and attack directly your secondary line and EGM. also note that the lack of chargers means once something touches a troll or an Elven demi, it has to beat it on its own... pretty big order especially for lonely EdM. Finally, note that multi-arrow flame-lightning will be able to hurt your trolls (even if at lesser efficiency), but, more importantly, it will also mean your defen chain will be easily broken. Yeah, sacrificing Corpheus to remove the Defend from at least 3 Elven Demis and thus, CUT the daisy chain is WELL worth it. Perhaps, some chargers support could help you defend yourself in case of a flanking action... Centaur LT's, Sislith Bladesmen, unique chargers wil do a great job at doing that.

healers are useless when you have something in base contact with the target... that's why you need good chargers. Otherwise your healers will be looking silly while your defend formation gets torn apart.

Last year at GenCon I used 48 Troll Artillerists in a 2000 pt game. It worked well then, but I'm not so sure it'll work now. Limited Invisibility hampers you greatly, especially with the reduced speed of Trolls, allowing you to be flanked, or bound attacked to then hide behind the LI wall.
Would recommend a BPR tank to explode or ram through the LI walls now-a-days. Would recommend no terrain placements or if terrain is necessary then streams (water).
I would recommend less Elven Demi-Magus, because their defense improvement doesn't matter in conquest (attack with 12 hitting 14 or 16 defense ...), and the magic enhancement would only benefit the primary shooter. Nobody will attack a formation of 5 Troll Gunners and Five-Elven-DemiMaguses, its just too bloody.
Dstewart the elven demis could have chain defend from EGM so it would be a good idea. I see a few problems with this army, If someone rammed your defenders you would be in bad shape and this army looks very defensive. I don't see how you can have an offensive stratedgy with it. And yes LI would tear it apart, I've done it before.

Firemage13, I'm guessing I have a different opinion of the defend capability in Conquest. In my observations, the attacking value is usually between a 10 and a 15 depending upon the number of pieces getting involved. If it is a 15 and you have a defense (with defend) of 19, you need a 4 to hit. That to me is pretty much the same as a guaranteed hit of a normal 14/15 defense. So, I'd prefer to have a 2nd Troll that could hammer the opponent back, assuming the first gets slaughtered.
From what I've seen in Conquest, defense is not really a necessary skill since almost everything hits. This may not always hold true (for instance in an Orc swarm army with 8 & 9 attack values), but it works often enough.
