Just trying things out, inspired by a lovely discussion about the Wyvern. Except we have no Wyvern here. Okay, army list first..
Shield Golem Shuffle
Formation:
* Shield Golem with
* Shieldwall Knight up front
*Standard Bearer behind
*** Heavy Cavalier left
*** Heavy Cavalier right
Well, yep, this is what I am up to. The "front" of the tank all have Battle Armor, for the 22 defense against ranged. The whole crew can run 12", which is also nice. Shieldy cant be based. If the Shieldwall Knight gets bashed apart by Venom or something, he gets Pole Arm, then DEFEND, so he can chain that 20 out there! (slim chance, but cool if it happens!)
The backfield is where the shuffle comes into play. When the Tank gets based in the front or back, you can use one of the Cavaliers to charge the offender, then move another of your mounted figures to take its place. If they base your Chargers, you can still break them away, maybe causing shakeoff, and move one of your backfield up to plug the gap. Oh wait...maybe the backfield should be the Unicorn mounts, so they can jump in there, cover the chargers, and then chain that 20 defense out there! hmmm....back to the drawing board...
The drone is there, obviously enough i suppose, to hit whoever shakes loose with Magic Healing. Since those mounteds have low defenses normally, she should be able to tag them with no problems...
Yep, and this is an all non-unique, non-LE army that will probably do pretty well. I imagine that you can use the LE equivalents to take this army to the next level...I think Mondravalis is a cool figure to use (two arrows, right?)
Take it easy on me, I do not make too many competition armies! LOL
I don't know about the shieldwall knight, I'm not sure on the points he's worth, but I'd try to swap him out for an Elf at Arms. Otherwise, I dig this army idea a lot, it's really fast, which is how I personally play, so that's great in my book.
Only thing I would change is that I would put in the pyre spirit instead of the fell reaper and lancer. I know, it may sound crazy, but I really like the pyre, and it can act as a really good detterent to someone trying to get near your shield golem, just a thought.
You should replace the Light Lancer and Fell Reaper with two Bladesmen that have defend, if possible. This way, when something bases your forced marcher you first charge it with one or two of the Heavy Cavalier/s based with the Golem. Then, replace the cavaliers with the Sisliths , chaining the defend to the cavaliers that have engaged the enemy. This way, your cavaliers can maintain that nifty 20 defense while in base with your assailant.
yeppers, that sounds pretty cool...i went back to the drawing board to try to apply that....i think i can get it to work! It might be cool to use the Trackers, that way they could bound up, fire at someone while taking their positions in the chain!
I like it, but wonder whats the function of the shieldwall knight? I haven't played one in a while but remember they seemed kinda odd, having a wierd mix of abilities. You had another KI mounted in the build. Perhaps cutting the shieldwall, you could move the mounted into the formation and then use the points from the shieldwall guy for another support attacker or to pump up your other guys.
I'm of the persuasion that you should play three or four Quarterstaff Warriors and Ashell the Driven with the Shield Golem. You may not get the 22 defense, but 20 is still no slouch, not to mention that the Amazon cuts through Battle Armor anyway. And in return you gain polearm. It makes for a nice anti-swarm that can run in and deal damage like the elf-at-arms.
Then again, if you're looking for a swiss army knife, then you need a *** Scorpem Gunner, a ** unicorn Bladesman, and a *** Heavy Cavalier or a *** Heavy Lancer. You might want to throw in a Liege Knight to help attacks and chain defense (and an Infantry Captain for speed).
Cool, a tank... Hmm... the heavy cavaliers seem a bit overcosted... Why not trying to squueze in 2 Hevay Lancers***? Or just downgrading them both to *? The 1 difference in attack and minor changes isn't much of a difference for 12 points more... also, you have a healer for redundancy!!!
@bshugg: The Shieldwall Knight starts with Battle Armor, so the front of the tank is fully covered. Later, he gets Pole Arm, which is always nice against swarms, then he gains Defend, so he can chain the Shield Golem.....all in all, kind of a wacky figure that doesnt see too much play.
@ Baldoroth & Anito: I think this army needs the following to really make the shuffle work:
Shield Golem
4x Mounted figures (2 KI, 2 anything)
Ranged attack healer
Forced March
KI Front Man
In 300 points, things will get tight if I try to get the Heavy Lancers...they are 51 points each! Hee hee, if I really wanted to go all elves, though, I could try to get
