I got this idea from ArmyC and his post of defining certain types of Archtype armies. This is only partly like it. Here I will try and help everyone on how to counter certain armies instead of defining them and helping you on making them.
Please read only don't post.
Let's begin:
First army that comes to my mind when I think of power is a Death Star amry. While I have never faced one and hopefully won't, I have a great plan on how to counter them. As most of us know Death Star armies are Magic Blast armies. Normally you might try to out wit them or get out of the arc of one yet there might be another just waiting for you, well I've got an idea that will hopefully help you in your troubles.
Dwarfs are great: Now this idea was the idea of my friend Dwarvenruler and I find it a great idea of how to fight back agaist the mighty DS army. The all out way to beat a DS army is to comprise your army of good, strong dwarfs. 'Why?' you might ask, allow me to explain, Dwarfs have this little thing called Magic Resistance, summed up for people who dislike DS armies this means, "Haha, can't hit me with your Magic Blasts now!". Which is true. However that's not all, they still have the ranged and no one really likes that unless they are using it. Now a counter to this would be to get a nice strong Dwarf such as Hammerskald or other unquie to lead an army of Dwarfs. For the others you want to find Dwarfs that have a good range like Thunder Gunner, 4 targets at 8 or 10" (can't remember) but you can change the course of the game with one damage to 4 figs. Another good Dwarf to use would be the Bombardo, this nasty little guy has a 12" ranged last I checked and I think did 2 or 3 damage.
Now if ranged isn't your thing then theres melee. This would include Beserkers and well, I don't have much more than that but anything you can think of that has beserk or sweep or weapons master would do good. The key to getting in close is to force march them up fast with someone like Hammerskald, then have them attack. This might seem a bit unorganized but when the enemy could normaly try for 6, and is resticted to 2 or 3, or maybe 4, you'll be glad you used this.
My last rule I guess would be to always, always keep a healer close. It's good to go beserk once but it's better to be strong. I got a little saying for ya now, "If you get red damage stop after an attack and heal, when you see the green you can again be a killing machine." I know it isn't good but try and come up with a saying for beserk.:)
Hope this helps and if you have any ideas on how to counter a certain army PM it to me and I will post it on this thread for everyone else to read. Please, please do not post on the thread.
Thank you:)
I thought that the deathstar was a stormgolem with ME, he still does 4 DMG without ME, how are your dwarves going to deal with that? or what about techun? or the Thunder golem? + even though MI counters MB and ME, what about other armies you might face? even if you use the MTN King, most of your figs will do poorly against other non MB armies. also last I checked, MB was optional.
Well forget no posting thing, I was told that DS was a Magic Blast army. Yes it is optional but why wouldn't you use it? It's a 10" arrow that goes through anything that also has a WM charecteristics.
Well, its an attack that goes out to your maximum range, whether it be 4" or 14". And why use MB when you can hit three different targets for 5 damage each (1 +4 for each ME'er). Thats 20 damage in a single attack.
Sorry for posting, but looks like Tsetsuki has been tossing some spiced hams around here too.
A Deathstar is usually based around any strong figure with multiple target capabilities, enhance with Shaman, Demi-Magi, or Surok Apprentices. Agreed, magic blast is good, but it only works on a single opponent. Choose: 1 d6 through terrain/figures, or 1 enhanced 3-4-5 times to pretty much everyone in range? Much more concentrated too if you attack a single opponent, as it adds the ME to your base damage. Not very viable any more, however, because of Big bounders. Shoot the main figure or enhancement first and the machine goes down.
Ok, it isn't much of a DeathStar - but could definately be the begining of a nasty army.. toss ina pair of WHK*** or something and the army becomes kinda nasty.
A real DeathStar would be something like ::
Snake+4x***GlowInTheDarkPhookas = almost 200 points.. add imp and stir
