Okay, well I know that you can't do a ranged shockwave attack normally because you end up targeting your own figures. Now, we've come to the conclusion that it is possible to enhance a shockwave using blocking terrain and a mounted shockwaver, but in a similar fashion would you be able to ranged formation attack a shockwave? Ok, lemme make a little diagram (or try to):
T=Therenody
E=Elven demi-magus
B=Boronx (opposing Thernody and Elven Demi-magus)
XXXXXXXX l
XBlockingX l
XXTerrainX lT
_________lT
E
E B
Therenody is facing north so that the LOS from his center dot to the EDM basing his back is cut off by the blocking terrain. The second EDM is staggered slightly to the left so that the LOS from Therenody to him is blocked by the blocking terrain as well. All three elementals have LOS on Boronx, therefore would a ranged formation attack be possible increasing Thernody's chances to only needing a 3 instead of a 7 to hit? I don't see anything in the SAC that says Shockwavers may not be part of a formation. This all seems legit to me, am I missing something?
Ranged combat formations can only be used with attacks affecting a single target. Due to this restriction you cannot have ranged formations for attacks using multiple targets, shockwave, or flame/lightning.
Hmm, that's an interesting situation... My guess is "no", because I've heard Shockwave described as having no real "targets", just "affected figures" (even if only one)... but this would definitely be a good one to bring up on the WizKids forum.
Obviously, the answer would be "no" in most cases, because you can't have formations where more than one figure is affected. But in your specific case, only one figures IS affected, and thus it might be possible to do :)
Yeah, of course it would have to be used when only one figure is within range. And yeah, I posted it on the Wizkids forum to get an answer from the rules moderator.
Well on the issue of "targets" the SAC does refer to the figures as targets. It says "... and the attack is resolved, as if the target had no special abilities..."
In this situation, I would have to say that the SW attack could be used in formation and it could be enhanced too. Net result is 5 damage to the 'clad at 14 attack. Extremely hard to set up though. I imagine that SW may receive some errata because of this, or it may be so obscure that nobody at WK will really care much. Good eye for catching that loophole.

I'm not sure I'm visualizing your example properly. As illustrated and explained, I simply cannot get the figures on my table to line up in a fashion where all three can draw a line of site, maintain base to base contact, and still avoid being in LOS of each other.
