Hello everyone, I was looking at the new "What Is A Combat Dial?" and noticed subfactions are among the changes. It sounds great to me. As a side note I saw in the new fiction page something about an "Order Of the Griffen and the Cross", maybe a new subfaction? Do think subfactions are a change for the better or worse? I think it would add a nice dimension to the game personally.
The promo figure from GenCon (Fedrin Starsdawn) has a griffon symbol on his base, so I'd guess he's part of that faction.
The subfactions are also supposed to have special abilities - similar with what they do with Heroclix and House Liao in MechWarrior. I remember quickly reading the ones for the Orcs and one was called Shadow-Khan or something similar but I forget what their abilility was though I don't think it was stealth.
Not many people do SneakyChaos, but it is kind of like the middle ages Religous Orders, like the Templar and Hospitaller. It adds texture and could allow for some cool fiction. OoV and OoU seem like obvious choices, and maybe the other orders within the sect.
I love the idea. I want to see some sub-factions from Atlantis Guild and Knights Immortal. As for the Necropolis Sect, I'd really like to use figs from the Order of Uhlrik, who I've supported since before the Vampiric Civil War. I guess the sub-faction symbol on Fedrin Starsdawn represents the Order of the Griffen and the Cross, which is pretty cool. Personally, I'd like to see a sub-faction that consists of Atlanteans who personally served the late Phrophet-Magus Karrudan or the present Atlantean emperor. Or better yet, I'd like to see a class of Knights Immortal warriors serving under each of the seven Council Lords of the Rivvenheim Mountains or sub-factions for the thirteen different orders of the Necropolis Sect. The reasons I'd like to see these sub-factions is because these three factions, Atlantis Guild, Necropolis Sect, and Knights Immortal are my three favorite factions (besides the Draconum and Solonavi). As for the remaining factions, here's what I think the sub-classes should represent:
Atlantis Guild- Warriors who personally served the late
Prophet- Magus Karrudan or the present emperor of
Atlantis.
Black Powder Rebellion- Warriors who serve the rebellion's
founder, Sarah Ythlim, or a well known
rebel warlord such as Blackwyn.
Draconum- Draconum and Scalesworn who fight in the name of
one or more of their dragon gods or for a powerful
Draconum warrior or mage.
Elemental League- Elves, trolls, centaurs etc. who serve a
particular leader from the Emerald Glade such
as Seeress Kess and Warrior Hun.
Knights Immortal- Elves and other warriors who serve under one
of the Council Lords or spiritually under one or
more of the seven Heirram gods.
Necropolis Sect- Elves, humans, and other warriors serving under
one of the thirteen dark orders.
Orc Raiders- Orcs honored as personal warriors of certain orc
heroes (e.g. Kzar Nabar, Patchwork, Ember)
Shyft- Shyft warriors who served under a notable Matriarch
Solonavi- Seekers who serve one of the five Solonavi Masters
(e.g., Solonavi Avenger, Solonavi Creator, Solonavi
Tormentor, etc.)
These are my ideas. However, I have one question. Will these sub-factions affect elite figs? Will MK be producing figs with three faction symbols (Two factions and a sub-faction)? Or will elite figs become a thing of MK 1.0? I was hoping in the future, there would be some elite Solonavi, but if elite figs are going to cease to exist, that will never happen. Otherwise, have fun contemplating what the future sub-factions will represent.
The Order of the Griffith and the Order of Sable (or whatever), these are not subfactions and could never be. Both take in all race so they would be their own faction. They have be around since the begining of MK. Some Subfactions are known, and some factions have been renamed:
Atlantean Empire
Golemkore
Imperial Legion
Black Powder Revolutionaries
Bloody Thorns
Northlanders
Dark Crusaders
Deathspeakers
Order of Vladd
Draconum
Elemental Freeholds
Elven Lords (New Faction)
Free Armies (Forced march ability) (Fedrin's Faction)
Temple Masters (Gallant Defense ability)
