Here's the basic idea: Have the demi-magi in formation with the gunner. Whenever anything comes near, shoot then for a nice 8 damage. If they are in a formation, all of the other figures in contact with the hit one take 5 as well.
Have the shades harass key pieces in opponents army.
This army can be adapted to 300 pts by adding an 2 *** Fell Reapers and one more * Shade.
So if I kill the Troll Gunner...the threat becomes?
I think you've got a good idea, but you lack enough threats. You'll have to push the Troll often for offense and lack any healers to bring him back to full. When he's pushed you'll be easily caught up with by any number of chargers/speed figures that exist today.
One of my fellow Dracs came up with an idea to use a bounder in conjunction with a Shyft/Phooka formation to lay on some MASSIVE bound damage!
He has 4 Shade harassers ... that in itself should provide enough harassment to tie down the opponent....
If there's a Biggy Fig with high defense.. then he can opt to group attack and bring his attack rating to 11+2+2=15 which should probably be gud enough to hit anything, even the mighty shield golem.
Nice army.. and I suggest you try it out and experiment .... be careful and make sure to TAG opposing threats....
the first obstacle you'll experience is the trolls relatively low speed of 6. Nothing much you can do there... just have to really move him forward.
I'd pop in a weak shaman ... or barberhurgg level 1 in place of one of the weak demi-magus so that you still get magic enhancement.. and Magic healing/healing as well. The troll gunner's Low defense should be easy enough to heal, especially after he gets shot at. though it will bring your army total to 199
remember to use blocking terrain to get your shades into position.. and choose which one to harass wisely...

Well first off, he can HARASS, but harassing don't make dead figures. Also, while said figure is being harassed, it can't be shot at (which gives me a cool dueling banjo idea I'll have to post) which renders the troll kinda useless. Also, shades ain't the toughest little buggers around. One shot from an ADrac or Corphy kind of makes them a little useless. Again, all this army has to do to lose is take ONE shot from big bound against the troll and it's crippled. It may work for you and if it does GREAT! I'm just saying it's a little risky for my taste. I always need back-up threats and once the Troll is gone from this build, you got nothin!
we want to encourage players to play with what they have :D ...
well anyway :D
with 4 shades..... and a few blocking terrain... the AmDrac Won't get an easy shot off... says suppose that it does get in a shot and kill the weak shade..... (hiding the shade in blocking prevents the situation by the way).... there will be 3 other shades who will do their best to push and push and harass the Am Drac from shooting its next deadly volley.
suppose the Troll gets shot at... theres still that itsy bitsy shaman to heal him up new :D and ready it for a countershot :D
the tuff shade takes 8 clicks to die .. the std 6 to croak .. one shot from the AmDrac won't kill it .. it'll need another charger to deal the next blow... and that's against a shade that will move in with just quickness... it will consume your opponent 2 actions to get rid of the shade.. while it only took your shade 1 Quickness move to get there (not always the case though) , while you move your "Deathstar" into position :D
Watch-out though as a smart opponent would deal the shade damage and then capture it...
Admittedly it requires a lot of practice and trainig to pull it off.... but it can and it will beat an Amdrac army :D .. just gotta play it right. An Amdrac can't dodge forever :D ....
I've had more success with multiple threat amotep gunners though... :)
cheers and good luck.. don't be disheartened if you loose a game or two.. just remember to learn from mistakes and have Fun :D
Sorry...didn't realize he only had these 9 figures! :D
Shades die...and with ADrac around, they die quickly. In order for them to be useful they can't be grouped right around your Troll...They have to be out in the field. That being said, they'll take a hit. Troll moves forward to get in range and will have to push for the shot or risk being smacked severely about the head and shoulders.
Like I said, all it takes is one hit to cripple your troll and with no healer that's a serious risk. The Demi-maguses have squat for range. The Shades are easily countered by anything with a horseshoe on the dial (I hear those mounted pieces are quite popular :D). That leaves only the troll as a viable threat.
I just don't see this army being that effective. Just trying to give honest feedback. Not to say the army is ####, I would just suggest tweaking it with a CP (for cheap healing) and working in at least another threat.
You aren't new to the game are you Death Golem? I thought I'd seen you around before... If you are email me a list of pieces you've got and I'll give you my opinion on what builds/combos you could start with...as much as my opinion matters that is! :D
I'm not trying to be a prick...I just come off that way sometimes!
A couple of comments. I like the army simply because it's relatively "old school" and doesn't have an uber unique. My comments:
1. You may want to swap out one of your Shades and include a Crystal Protector. I always find it's nice to have a healer.
2. Anyone running big bound or a fast charger will be able to get out of your Gunners arc very quickly. Here's an idea....maybe try to fit in a technomancer and use it's ML SA to "turn" your Gunner. It can't shoot in the same action, but it will be all set up for the next turn.
death golem,in my opinon,u lack of a secondary threat, when yur opponent starts to hammer yur primary threat,u do not hav another threat to counter yur opponent. When yur main threat, the demi-magus and troll gunner start to suffer clicks of damage,u r going to hav a hard time.
Even though there r players who onli play one solo threat in 200 pts, they normally hav healers to back them up.
In addition,u do not hav melee figs to back u up if yur formation is B2B with yur opponents melee figs(eg.solonavi tormentor),i dun think yur shades will fare well in countering them, they'll get hammered instead.I really suggest tt u should heavily modify yur army if u r intending to play in a cutthroat environment
Dragonreborn,
In a pinch, the Demi-mags can fire in formation (3 together) for an 11 attack. It's not extraordinary, but they can be used as a threat! Risky, but interesting. I had first only considered them as support, but the formation would actually be able to lift them up a bit on the threat scale.
sentinel007,i think u misunderstood my post,i din say the demi-maguses r not a threat, since the troll gunner is in the formation,i said its the only threat in the army.Wht i like to warn death golem is tt without a proper healer, his army is difficult to play,he needs to play Real smart.this is jus my humble opinon.
Big bound would eat this army alive if it went right after the gunner. Corpheus would absolutely destroy it with flame-lightning. As mentioned, i would highly recommend a CP or two in there, more so for a LI wall than for healing, but the healing is a nice bonus too.

Well actually it would be two threats in the same formation, which is risky but still TWO threats!
As far as big bound eating this army alive, well I don't know if you noticed this or not but big bound eats MOST armies alive! :D All in all I personally would never field this build, but it could be fun to experiment with. Just don't plan on winning Nationals with it...though you never know! :D
