When I saw them at my local gaming shop, I told the cashier, I'd buy one, spill it open, and if I liked it, I'd buy more on the spot. I was very impressed with the design, its very well thought out and the pieces are pretty sturdy. Here's a pic of our layout:
This is:
- 3 Starters
- 3 Floor packs
- 1 Trap set
Being our first dungeon ever, it wasn't very well planned out so some spots were not used effectively. It took a long time to set up, but we have it in chunks now so the next few games will be better.
There was only one problem (other than the addictiveness, not enough walls and high cost). When connecting two of the floor tiles together, one of the tabs missed and bent upwards. It wasn't noticed until the game was starting and it was part of a room and couldn't be fixed. I also found a snapped off tab when we were cleaning up. But its not a disaster, the tile can still be used.
The trap set is really cool. I like how you can spin the floor tile, and you can be secretive about what trap is there. The detail on the traps themselves is awesome.
I agree with the fact that there's not enuf walls and it will get pricey (although i did get all mine VERY CHEAP) making a huge dungeon, but i love the tiles.
I like the way you set it up, the way you used the walls to create hallways and corridors is how i think it was meant to be done. i did try using alot of fully walled in rooms and i found that the walls can actually get in the way, so having some open tiles is actually better from a game-flow standpoint.
NICE DUNGEON!!! THEY REALLY DO NEED TO MAKE A WALL SET THOUGH. I REALLY LIKE THE DETAILS OF THE TRAPS TOO... I HAD PICS OF THE TILES, WALLS, AND TRAPS EVEN BEFORE THEY WERE REALEASED... GUESS I SHOULD HAVE POSTED THEM. :(
Thanks for the compliments but its really all Wizkids' doing.
;)
Yes, with a fully walled dungeon, you do tend to miss some of the guy's that can be hidden behind walls. Eventually, the board gets so big that you can't really see behind every wall unless you start walking around. So literally, you're playing this game on your feet.
Turning the dial on a trap counter flanked by walls is also another disadvantage I can imagine.
It is really addictive though...I mean you start building something and you think "Hrm, what would this be like if I had more?" and already I've added one more floor pack to my collection.
Great example of not only a good dungeon but how to use walls.
To the comment: "Eventually, the board gets so big that you can't really see behind every wall unless you start walking around. So literally, you're playing this game on your feet." I've gotten used to playing on my feet since playing Hero Clix at home, I usually end up standing up.
(Sheesh! I'm thinking of setting up a direct deposit from my paycheck to them!)

Well I couldn't resist the urge to pick up another floor pack and my friend got a tonne of boosters and 3D objects. Here's a pick from our game yesterday (rush job, throwing it together as quick as possible):
Just another set up we did on the weekend for some post-blackout fun. This quicky had no walls, 10 rooms, and trap tiles connecting each room, as well as doors. It was a fun game, rules were loose, monsters were plenty and so was treasure and artifacts.
