In short: We made some bad decisions. We're stuck with the results now and we're trying to fix everything as quickly as possible. We're just sorry that we ended up bringing you along on the roller-coaster ride.
This is an actual quote.
No. This is not a statement made by WK.
No. This quote has nothing to do with Mage Knight - or any other WK product.
This quote is the last paragraph in a long letter written from a company to its consumers.
THIS is what I have reffered to many times when I think of a company that keeps in touch with its fanbase.
A very frustrating thing for me, in the past year, dealing with MK was the fact that the company did not interact at all with the fan base. I am very glad to see that they are actually posting lately, which will likely improve the game in the long run if they maintain (and improve) the lines of communication.
I expect that this will be my last post on this board. I had known for a while that I was going to quit - but then when they made the announcement that 2.0 was coming out.. I decided to hold off and see more about it But no. 2.0 does not appear to be doing anything that will actually change the game. Big figures and individuals will still rule the day. I had hoped that WK would shift the game towards a more "teamwork" game than the "individual" game that it has been for a long time.. But with the addition of items (that improve uniques) and the reduction of the formation rules.. it appears that WK designers feel that individuals are a better direction for the game to take.
I am not saying that I believe the game will be bad. Chances are that those who enjoyed playing 5 figure no formation armies in 200 points, using whatever the big unique of the day is.. I belive that the game will still offer a lot to those people, maybe different individual figures - but I doubt that anyone playing a formation of scrubs, with the intention of taking down the big figure, will have much more luck than currently.
Maybe I'm wrong - but for me life goes on.. in a world with thousands of games to choose from - having to wait 3 months for rules that are already being printed seems too long for me to wait. Especially when the bits and pieces are not exactly quelling the discomfort.
So, like I said - adios.... I will be at DragonCon - if you see me, make sure to ask for free figures - I won't be coming home with any.
By the way - The quote above was taken off of a letter from Wizards of the Coast to its players.. not exactly a small game company.
Well, I'll be sad to see you go, Yandros. You sure you won't be back someday? Who knows, WK may yet see the light and try to bring formations back online...
I find it weird that so many people are anti WotC, yet the company does such amazing things such as appologize for their mistakes. Even after 10 years of making magic and large forces of well trained playtesters they STILL make mistakes. They have a system to catch and remove them. Wizkids has no organized system of catching and removing their mistakes besides the rule changes that still leave most of the problems intact. They are a new company and will make much more mistakes, yet they don't work to fix things so future mistakes don't pop up.
I think (that's think... not knowing), that WK is simply clique-ey. You know, clique oriented: who ya know is more important than what you know.
If it's so it explains a lot. The lack of professionalism in lots of what they do. The lack of firm direction (Warlords, tourneys, campaigns, even a consistent plan for exploiting the net). The lack of input from the top levels of competitive players. Typical in small companies.
Dunno. It's a private company. There's no need for them to be transparent.
(In case you can't tell, this is B One speaking... #### kid loggin me out...)
Well, 2.0 is probably more than you could expect them to do.
I thought we would be playing the old system for another 2 years.
Youre bound to find something that suits your style more, although the figures wont look as nice (unless youre like REALLY good at painting). Although like what Ive seen at Gencon, MK has overtook WH now. Only the professionally painted models can rival the 2.0 figures.
I'm sorry to see you go, too, Yandros. I can't say I'm surprised by any of the departures that have happened or that I expect to happen in the near future. I plan to hang on for a while yet and see what develops, but I'm not going to predict what I will eventually do. I'd like to see MK not only survive, but become better. I don't know what will happen, but I agree 100% that if the rules that eventually show up do nothing to help formations take on those big uniques, then I'm not long for the game either. That just isn't the game I signed on for. Good luck to you (and I hope WK takes the advice).
Wow,
That's a heavy hitter to morale...
I really wish you would stay but in response to other things on your thread-
You don't have to play tournament wise, most of the games I play are casual, I only go to tournaments to sharpen my skills.
Anyway, I wish you luck on whatever you decide to play, and wether you play mk you should hang around here every now and then, maybe WK will change their ways, or just to hang around with old friends. Well, See ya Yandros.
I'm sad to see you go Yandros. I really hope Wizkids watches
these 2.0 threads, and learns something from this. Clever
chase/uber-figure marketing strategy is no substitution for
balanced gameplay.
:(
Yandros, I met you and played you once, sorry to see you go - also puzzled - give 2.0 a chance, I'm not convinced you're right in your assumptions - Domains and Constructed terrain are great - I think formations and melee wil be important - and I do think if letting 1.0 orcs and 2.0 orcs form up is important, WK WILL make that change, but they want us (and rightly so) to play first, before we petition for a major change - I respect that. WK does communicate, and I think 2.0 is an attempt to deal with all the complaints, criticisms, and whining that goes on in these vey boards...I think WK is definitely listening, and trying to respond as best they can - but each of us seems to want a response to their own little question or compalint - and no company does that (any company that tried would be out of business in a heartbeat)
2.0 looks awesome to me, and I've been here since almost the very beginning. Will I love every single thing about it? most likely not, but nobody can make a "perfect" wargame, and certainly not one that seems perfect to more than few people. so I just think eveeryone should chill, wait for the release, playtest thoroughly, then start compalining all over again!! hehehe
This is Jeff in case you've forgoten. I remember when you used to say that if you couldn't move your whole army in one turn, it wasn't worth playing. That was back in the days of lancers, when I was the worst player at our venue, and I had more often than not forgotten it was just a game. Thank you for beating me all the time, it made me better.
P.S. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't love goblin archers :D.
