i was thinking about why you have to roll a die for WM and mage blast, and then i thought about what its supposed to represent. Then i realized that it was supposed to represent the fighter using different spells/weapons without making complex stats for each character. So if you roll a 1, your magus just shot out a couple of sparks, but if you roll a 6, your magus just summoned a lightning storm and blasted your foes. Much the same with weapon master. If you roll a 1 your crystal bladesman just cut off a peice of the hild, but if you roll a 6, your bladesmith drac got out a huge sword and chopped off a limb.
I figured that WM was simply the fig did a bunch of fancy footwork when attacking, and a 1 meant the opposing fig has seen that attack before and could mostly deflect it, but a 6 is the opposing fig goes "wow, what is he/she doing....ow, that hurt"
As someone who teaches 16th and 17th cen swordplay.. I have to admit I have always just considered it a game mechanic that reflected training above and beyond that of the average warrior with its static decreasing damage.
