Here is a quick battle report from our evening at Fantasy Escape. It is a new town, new venue, and new warlord. It could be fun
The kids and I mustered what forces we could come up and headed out to see how things worked in a 2.0 kinda world. However, it was a cold, rainy annoying evening so we were the only folks who made it. The armies presented here are probably crud. With probably being kind. They are composed of whatever figures we could dig out of the boxes they were packed in to make a force (Army is too kind also).
Round 1. I had a bye. So the other players setup to do battle. First Army had
AD
Magna Draco
Sol Drone
A couple of Rivenguards and healers
Vs
Steam Golem
3 huntsmen
Troll basher
Wererbear
A couple of Mending Priestess
And some sort of tinker dude.
This boiled down to gigantic brawl for the middle objective. Lots of damage. In the end, player one was left holding it and won 2-1. Player 2 could have contested it on his last turn and might have one on points. However, the new victory conditions were forgotten in the excitement.
Round 2. I lined up against the First Army. I had
Techun
Abydor
2 Blade Golems
Utem Guardsman
Golem Mechanic
And most importantly a Crusader Priest
Blocking terrain separated the objectives so there was 3 lanes. Abydor went left and suckered the AD into a bounding attack. The techun and surged to attack. Player 1 moved over the MD and the drone over to assist. Just before they got there, the blade golems attack. In the end, the golems went down but the techun killed of the AD. Then, the revenant train began. AD killed MD. MD killed drone… I won 2-0. Also, magestone mine was in effect. It went off twice in all the grand melee.
Round 3. I fought Army 2.
Terrain ended up in a similar arrangement. Abydor went left, Techun up the middle and the BG group went over on the right. Most of his army went to my left after Abydor, except the Steam golem which made a run to my right for my objective and the BGs had moved on. Techun managed to snipe off one of the priestess before jumping to my right to cut off the Steam golem. Well, the steam golem rather bloodied Techuns nose. A surge and miss, a crit, and it was down hill from there. Had to pull him out to be healed. However, the Crusader Priest slide over and finally fried the Steam Golem saving the right. Meanwhile, the BGs had made it from the right to the left and mixed it up with bear, brawler and huntsmen. The bear, jumped right over his prime slots with a well timed hit from Abydor. That side ended up in a draw. He was healing just as fast as I was knocking them down. Time was called. Leaving me with a 2-1 victory. If I was paying attention, I could have contested the left objective
All in all not the fastest or best games played. But just to make RobRob happy, we did have fun. Things should improve next week. Found most of the 2.0 figures and all the domains and relics we have collected.
Thanks to Warlord BarbJebez for running a well organized event complete with accurate rules (as accurate as they can be) and FAQ and putting up with our few thousand rule questions.
Very creative formations indeed. That is rather kind. I am not sure what other figures we had available. Mostly an odd assortment of old uniques. It was definitely not your 2.0 cookbook army night.
The venue is in beautiful, sunny Va Beach. (OK 33 degrees and raining yesterday. Never cold enough for a good snow.) Right under the shadow of the very odd town center. Visit the beach, and see this architectural wonder.
