Or should I say pet-project?
I am messing with a new idea with my new Helm of Rule. It seems to be a useless relic that draws fire upon your warrior to make him a pincussion, but I think I see something beyond that. Defend, the perfect ability to take advantage of "elven crown". General Vale seems like a great warrior for the relic-
pros
-Gives an extra to defence for General Vale and those who surround him
-Nearly invunerable to close combat
cons
-Takes a lot of points
-Attack lowered to 7 for first click
Weighed out I think the idea has some values, I made two armies to use him, but both are more quickly done rough drafts and haven't thought much about domains yet-
Army 1- Pure Faction EL
General Vale + Helm of Rule 135
High Elven Archer ***x 2 70
Apprentice Conjurer * 27
Master Archer * 31
War Priestess * 35

I have the Vale and High Elven Archers formation moving at 10, with defence of 19 seems like it alone is a huge threat. War Priestess follows along for healing while the Apprentice Conjurer and Master Archer head for objectives.
Army 2
General Vale + Helm of Rule 135
Harka Orc * 25
Crusher ** 18
Bone Grinder *** 21
Nightmare Reaper *** 42
Sisilth Bladesman *** 51
Deathsinger ** 29
The orcs make a small fodder attack-shield for Vale utalizing their new and improved 19 defence, meanwhile the Nightmare Reaper and Sisilth Bladesman try to destroy enemy ranged units. The Deathsinger is in for Revenant just for it's versatility and for getting figs out of the game before the enemy can, as it is an often used ability in my area.
As I typed this I figured it might be good to use one of the range limiting domains/weather if I can get my hands on em.
Note that with defend only the "unmodified" defense is passed along - so Vale will only be passing his defense on his dial, not his defense plus his relic bonus.
Army 1 - you have only 1 melee piece! General Vale is fine, but with only 1 melee piece you can get tied up easily by nearly any harasser.
Army 2 - your two chargers are charging at 5 or 6" when others are surging at 8-12" - you'll get eaten with those pieces. Additionally, for the tracker, he can't charge and use WM - but he still hits for 4 clicks.
Army one-
Absolutely correct, I am hoping however that the High Elven Archers can shoot the harrasers before they base, or use precision to "un-harrass" them. It is risky to rely on that, so I might need to figure something out for that. I thought about using a Rock Griffen...
Army two-
At 5" and 7", and surgers should yes, but they have to take a click of a damage for surge, I can do it for free(obviously). I know about the Sisilth, but I had no intention of using WM(not a whole lot of a point in it I think)
You have valid points, I will try to refine the army to show less weakness.
