I know it may seem that I'm action heavy, but I'm not at all. The two summoners will pretty much stay far apart to begin with and not move much.
This leaves all of my actions to my mage spawn. With 7 magespawn, including one with quickness, I can move everything I need to in two turns.
I was thinking of specific domains I need to watch out for. I think BoL is going to be my biggest threat, but in all seriousness I think I can handle that pretty easily. So I'm probably going to end up holding Stormgale and Grasslands in my hand.
What do you think? Don't be afraid to insult me, I know it's taking advantage entirely too much of the summon SA.
I'd like to add that I know this army isn't incredibly original(or original at all), but I've never seen it posted specifically before, and I was hoping to start some discussion.
P.S. As much as I dislike rotation, I now know why it must happen.
That's very true, but I'm not afraid of spending my first two turns pushing my werewolves. Grasslands and Mountain Pass can be in play at the same time, so can Stormgale, so there's a good chance that the field will still be even because it's likely my figures will be be getting shot up while they move in.
I nice little addition is to tweak the points to get a scale(whatever) specter. they cost about 34pts or so and can surge 10 with a 10 attack WM. They also have 10FM which helps get you up the filed a little quicker.
Ok just noticed no shfyt...but for a vareint keep them in mind..also Slag Trolls* can be some nice nasty stuff for summon armies.
BoL army with leadership would be bad for you, if you get out 1 werewolf and add 2 crystal protectors, you don't have to worry about it at all. I'd also rather see more shades - you need to have figures to tie up something like Rava and a mini-swarm, so Rava can't get to your Summoners. at least, if you don't want the Shades, if you have the CPs even Rava won't be able to kill your Summoners
This looks like a fun army to play. If you lose your ability to summon you will be in a tight spot. I would keep some of your Mage Spawn back as bodyguards.
Also, You might want to switch out one of the War Impalers for a couple *** Shades. They are great blockers and can tie up the ranged units that will take advantage of any non-surging domain.
I actually don't think a BoL/Leadership army would cause me too many pains. In that case I'm DTing everything I can as fast as I can to the other side of the field to take out that BoL figure. I know my opponent will have support, but all I need is two out of the seven MS to get there and be effective.
Rain and mud would be annoying, but in the end it wouldn't damage me too badly. I'm a pretty good judge in domain usage and I think I'd beable to know when to use my domains. If Rain and Mud is played, hopefully I'd have either Grasslands or Stormgale in play as well. Both of these protect me from the range that I need to fear.
I suppose I could take out one werewolf and put in a * and a **Crystal Protector...I may think about it because yes, it would add some much-needed endurance power to the priest(which is really the only summoner I need to worry about, cause sauria can take all the damage in the world and just came back into play the next round.
The Priest is where the real power lies in this army. Man, we desperately need a Shyft with summon that costs 61 points, oh well, with rotation those wraiths out there won't be used anyway, but it would be quite the powerful piece!
Folds, if you don't go first for terrain placement, and the BoL army has a stone tower, you're dead!!! getting there won't help if you can't damage the fig!!
Folds, BOL is used regularly at the venue where I play. It's 3 damage won't eliminate your army, but it can be a pain as you have pointed out.
The most obvious solution which of course you know about is domain useage, but can't always count on that.
What I've done is regularly pack a *** Dwarven Ram. Drop the Shade and one Impaler. At 50+ points it's pricey for the 2 damage, but he can be very effective against an unprotected BOL engine. The Ram is MI, can doubletime for 24 " (unless someone nerfs this with a domain) and can provide autodamage. With 18 defense he can hold his own unless ganged-up.
What I've done is simply use my Ram as a sacrificial figure to pin down the BOL wielder until the rest of my troopers can get up to do damage.
Of course if you plan on playing this army competitively you can forget my suggestion as the Ram will be banned in a month.
Ok, sure, I'm investing 72 points in summoning, and that's a lot, a fourth of my army even.
But my opponent is spending a minimum of 126 points of his BoL. Add in Leadership for like another 38 points, he or she is investing over half of their army into this one thing.
Personally I've never thought it was a good idea to invest half of your army into basically one attacker; I've never been comfortable with the idea myself.
Basically I'm saying I can handle losing 72 points in only two figures when I have 7 figures left(all having potential to be annoying).
I have to admit that another reason I'm feeling fairly confident is that I'm almost sure that I won't be seeing any BoL where I'm going to play this army, let alone BoL in a tower.
I know it's good but Blasted lans take your werewolves stealth for the most part (because of lack of terrain), and it damages your summoners. High defense could hurt you too.
High defense won't hurt me too badly because the werewolves have a decent attack, not to mention gang-up.
Blasted Lands will really only hurt with the no-terrain rule. It still won't protect my enemy from my Kruggs, and my werewolves start with a higher defense then. Both my summoners are still fine after one click too.
I played this army tonight, and ironically enough, in the championship round I ended up playing a Shield Golem/Techun/Zeph Army.
So obviously that's some tough high defense.
Guess what domain I played? Blasted Lands! Blasted Lands helped me a ton and the range thing was not a factor at all with 20 inch DT'ing from the War Impalers. My opponent actually played Rain and Mud, but Blasted Lands cancelled it!
So it actually worked out very well with both that domain and high defense, because I won in under half an hour by pure elimination.
