Varatrix is the main attacker with the drones softening up figures or using sweep against formations with the channeler providing extra range backup and healing for the drones.


So far the domains i have used are Tezla's Shade (very good way to get extra units in your army by enslaving your opponents) and Mountain pass, but dont know what to use for a 3rd domain.

no....it sucks....varatrix is awesome, but you sacrafice too much just to make it pure solonavi. Varatrix sacrafices not having a relic or item, while the drones are just sort of stupid in numbers, a solid range fig could bust their heads open, let alone a ram or mounted figure. My mounted EF pure army would tear that army apart. a couple Horned Stags with ram and ghostform, riverchargers up top, maybe a crystal protector (which is tech. elemental league) and a horned hunter with a cloak of shadow and a relic.

Try making a 300pt PURE solonavi army, its not easy since most of the solonavi uniques are retired. And yes i could make a army that can beat it easily, and varatrix with a relic is abit much in 300pts with spirit armor around.

A ***Drone has 19 defence against range and 21 if its in hinderd, plus stormgale prevents all range. What would be the point in playing ghostform? When you play varatrix you dont go up to soaring and shoot with it, you charge up to the enemy and whack them on the head. I'v played it against figures similar to what you mentioned, and it wasnt that hard to beat them, especially with varatrix in formation with the drones, giving trix a 18 attack for 5, the ***Drone 14 attack for 3, and the **Drone 12 attack for 3 damage each with sweep if needed, and the channeler does just as good in melee as it does at range. And no, Varatrix does not need a relic or item.

i would put a souldrinker on varatix so u will regen all if u kill somebody

Yes, i was using a soul drinker on varatrix, until a combo under 100pts came along that can kill 209pts of your army with little effort.

i might consider maybe an oathsworn just for variation, maybe one drone, solonavi soulbinder might be fun, and you get to stick with the theme.

One small question:

What if your opponent has Caldera or Vithzerai with the Star Shield? That one relic negates your army here. Though I do commend you for attempting to create a theme army.

The Star shield says that the wielder can't be the target of a ranged combat attack and Varatrix is mostly a melee fighter anyway. Putting the star shield Vithzerai would leave you with a wopping 13 points so that wouldn't work.
Putting Scorch Hammer on Varatrix would give him a 15 attack and you could put Magestone Bracers on him to give him a 19 defence and if he did take enough damage to lose ghost form spell resistense would take effect.
You could then fill the rest with oathsworn to keep with pure Solonavi and you could have a magic Healer so if Varatrix needed to be healed he would just have to drop the Bracers, heal, and then pick them back up. Let me know what you guys think.

Yeah that army probably won lots of tournies...before 2.0 came out.

I like the Channeler. Can heal or hurt as required with a 12 attack and 3 damage

Another thing you can't heal Varatrix so long as he has Ghostform. No ranged attacks can target him so he can't be magically healed. When I play Varatrix I always use a regular healer. Is there even a solonavi with regular healing? Maybe one of the seekers? Remember the Seekers are still legal.

Yes, but Bahamut wanted to make a pure Solonavi army, and if he included any seekers, the army wouldn't be pure. It'd be a Solonavi/Hero army.
