This thread is basically an Army Building Challenge.
Build an army : post-rotation MK2
- 300pts
- SINGLE FACTION !!!
- 3 domains
- Explain your strategy (in short).
- When using Mounteds, the RIDER has to be of the same faction as your army. You can use any mount that this Rider is allowed to ride.
Example : You want to use a Flame Priestess in your Elven Lords Army ..... you are allowed to put her on a Soulmare - which is a DC mount.
So the rule is : the RIDER's Faction counts.
Domains: Storm Gale, Mountain Pass.(In a 3 round tourney, only 2 domains are used, the other is a dummy :) )
Note: Its not nearly as effective as with sydin/bonestaff, but due to limitations, I had to be creative :)
The explination of this is short and sweet. Use the *Violators and *** Ubkhan march forward in a group, slaughtering what they need to. Use storm gale against soaring ranged units like tazia, or ground range monsters like rava. When facing a swarm like ZC or the like, use Mountain Pass. Your * Violators may not be able to surve...but that *** UB Khan can :)
Keep Scorch relativly close to your main attack formation. He lacks the omnipotent range of Sydin's bonestaff, so he needs to be able to place the ammo within 10". Heardrinker can escort him for your third action. Have fun!

Thanks Farchyld,
Great example of how an army post should be like.
Precise, clear, all the necessary info (pt costs for example) not too short, not too long.
Use it as an example folks.
PS I did have a 4 round tourny in mind ;) - hence 3 Domains
16 players, winners playing each other, gives you a final between two "3-and-O's" in the fourth game.
Believe me, I am lamenting the loss o fmy Leech Medics!
The Domains I would bring are Mountain Pass, Clear Terrain and well, something else...lol maybe Magestone Strip Mine.
With Scattershot and Stoneheart w/ potion, I need the rest of my army to be all Northlanders, to have the 50% needed to get the special subfaction ability.
My strategy is pretty straightforward: Put Scattershot to cover the near objective (he has toughness and a good defense, so he can hold tight) and he bombs the heck out of the center objective or wherever bombs are needed. My dwarves march to the center, and beat up whoever comes along. When they go Frenzy, they run back to the Surgeon, to get healed. Like I said, no great shakes here, but fun to play, and they look neat.
If you comment, please remember that I am looking to keep it Northlanders....
A little variation on my 300 Point Chroma army that's so risky to play it's fun!
Chroma-112
w/ Inferno Relic-35
***Scalesworn Honorguard-38
w/ EF Sky Dragon-72
Arjen Lightbringer LvL. 3-43
Domains: I have so many good ones I can choose from!
Dragon gods
Stormgale
Darkness-top choice
Wylden Forest
Mountain pass-this is a top choice
Earthquake(does this affect riders on wing type mounts?)
War
It's a hard choice after Mountain Pass and Darkness, maybe I'd go with Dragon gods if I'm feeling spunky, stormgale would be a waste a little with inferno, but not much considering it would really boost my other figures(especially Arjen who has the very sparsley-found polearm ability. Wylden forest is another fun one, wing type figures ignore terrain while moving even if not soaring, right? I'm not sure on that one either though...yesh!
Strategy: Don't get shot! :D
But seriously, Chroma is swarm killer, especially with uber-venom from Inferno. Not having to rely on surging at all is great. I originally had a potion of vitality on her and a *Pain wrath instead of arjen(with a different rank of scalesworn as well). Chroma or the Cavalry unit can act as main attacker while the other one is a huge bodyguard.
Like I said it's risky with only four dials and three figures to move around, but I think it would definitely be a hoot to play!
Oh, and you could always switch out the EF skydragon in favor of the draconum one to really be pure, but we all know it'd be an inferior build.
One more thing: Thanks Borg for an awesome army challenge, I'd like to see more in the future, this is one of my most-favoritest things about mage knight!
Basically abuse the Cenaur's shakeoff in the early game, and follow up charge with the ***Centaurs. Then just necromany and revenant to keep on fighting through the late game and use Sanguine to pick of the wounded.
Moct, my suggestion would be drop that crusader priest and pick up kbow. Everyone fears the soaring death!
Just make sure to keep your swarm away from the impending doom!

THE GOOD: This is a total close combat army. I'll have two figs with Charge and the Cavalry unit with Mounted Charge so I won't have to fear Mountain Pass being thrown down. With Galeshi Sunblade in hand, Throne Monk is a beast along the lines of Varatrix. In fact I will say better because she can use Charge instead of having to Surge and take damage like Trixie would. I have to keep Throne Monk and my Cavalry unit safe though 'cause if one of them gets spanked early I'll be in bad shape. I know that Borg said the mounts don't have to be faction pure and the EF Sky Dragon is better than the Drac one. But I am going true faction pure baby so give me the Drac. It still is the second best mount and it had Thunderblow which will be good as I'll need to make every attack hit hard! The Whelps are decent and I'll run them up the middle into the fray early and often. They both get many clicks of Weapon Master so maybe I can get a couple of big damage hits with them. I expect they will die every game but that's what Whelps are for.
THE BAD: The obvious is no ranged attackers whatsoever. Though my Domains and the Sunblade can deter that, I'll still have to keep my eyes out for the Khan Ravas, Snow's Fuser Rifles, BOLs, etc. etc. or else they will make quick work of me. Also, I have a small army with only 4 figs which in my experience almost always loses to big swarm armies like the Orcs. Plus no Healing or Revenant either.
BOTTOM LINE: I like the Dracs, but this army probably won't win me any tournaments any time soon. In a Faction Pure environment, the mighty Orcs and Dark Crusaders would hand me my lunch I would assume. An upgrade of the Sky Dragon to the EF one would be a big boost. Then I can use the cheese-o MC/C tactic. Maybe I'll give this a test run soon. Overll, not terrible but not a winner.
A small warband of bloodthirsty orcs lead by Crox on his malicious warbird.
Domains of choice would be Darkness and Smoke and Fog to limit range, and I gave Crox a potion just in case he comes under fire.
The third domain would be code of the raiders, which gives Crox terrify and adds +1 attack to all the others, including the warbird.
The warbird is quite a good mount with pathfinder to race through patches uf brush, and if Crox gets dismounted, there is still a chance he can climb onto its back again.
Domains : Tezla's Shade (possible chance of using your opponents figures against them)
Mountain Pass (stops surging and double-time)
Clear Skies (sometimes you just have to soar and shoot)
Its pretty strait forward, trix is the main attacker and gains 15 attack in melee, with counter attack and crushing blow anything he kills makes him heal back full, and ghost form lets him close in on threats (if someone uses Varatrix only to soar and shoot, they deserve to loose with it), while the drone is a backup attacker to soften up formations, while the drone is extra ranged support or healing (not to mention a decent melee attacker)
And yes its hard to make a decent solonavi army since the lowest figure worth using is 34 pts and all sinister solonavi uniques are not legal in standard.
With all the Chromas and Throne Monks floating around I would like to point out that a 10" moving cavalry unit gets first strike on both of them on a charge or mounted charge, because if you measure from the center to the front its about 2", but if you measure from the center to the side its clearly less than an inch.
Of course there are many other factors, but being able to put the pressure on is always nice. :)
What about Code of the Raiders for one of your domains. All the Orcs get +1 to their attack values and the Warbird gets Terrify. Granted, you can't capture, but I think that's a fair trade off.

Chunga
Yup, its a great domain for the orcs, as I mentioned, hehe.
Its Crox who gets terrify, as he has the highest pointcost, but it still keeps warriors from basing the cavalry unit. Plus no unit has lower than 10 attack in the whole army, pretty awesome.
The orcish warbird is one of the best mounts for its toughness and durability, it can actually take a hit and still keep going.
Only problem with this army would be if I cannot shut down range, but I still have the potion and the healer to heal up a unit that has been hit on the way in.
There is an alternative to scratch the healer and the violators, and use a bunch of wolfkin, that is the one with pathfinder and the rest with stealth and to use a lot of hindering terrain and the wylden forrest domain. Then youd be more or less immune to range even without darkness or smoke and fog.
