Round 1: Bye. Of course I had to figure this out after reading the pairings list 5 times wonder if I was blind. Went to Exhibit hall and spent money. I won, credit card lost.

Round 2: PimpGolem and his Darkbringer and Zombie Centaur horde. Played Darkness to slow his Zombies down. Defining action, Darkbringer pushes to charge the General and misses. Counter attack hits. My turn, General critical hits. End of Darkbringer.

Round 3: Kyle (forgot last name) the very quiet one with Khan Rava. Flame Priestess on Dragon, and a Posessed Drac. I played Storm Gale and he really didn't have much of chance.

Round 4: Braden with lots of Zombie Centaurs and the Zaping Flame Priestess on a Dragon with 2 CP. Played the wrong domain (Tezla's shade instead of downpour), but it wouldn't have mattered much. I didn't have a decent match for the MB and that was telling.

So at the end of day 1, 3-1 with only 6 Objectives.

Day 2: Sealed

Round 1: Dan with the Host-Leader and others. Didn't use strong flier to allow the drone golem to bring allow a shield to set up his charge and paid for it. 0-1

Round 2: Death. Earthquake went off on turn 2. Death missed several breakaways and was just worn down. 1-1

Round 3: Another Realmer whose name escapes me. (real embarrassing as we talked for 45 minutes after the game due to another 'computer problem' (old age is rough)) Suroks on Technocats and Dragon Priest on Sky Dragon Really good game. Earthquake hit on turn 3. Got I blast on the Dragon Priest before my Flame Priestess was knocked to her doom. Cloud Dragon was then able to get 2 good sweeps in to take out the dragon and the Dragon Priest fell to his doom. Managed to get both Suroks demo with the drone golem and Barrow Knight. Suffered a few tramples but was finally able to impale the 18 defense of the technocat. 2-1

Round 4: My second favorite Lion Xanth. Warbird with Surgeon, Pain Wraith, Oathswarn, River Charger on Horned Stag. and a Surok rider. Another good game. The flame Priestess tried to hunt down the Wraith but took 3 tires just to hit it once. Therefore, she failed to show up in the middle scrum and help. In the end, I got outplayed and lost. 2-2 on the day

Ended the 2 days 5-3 with a lowly 12 objectives. Much better than I thought I would do. Xanth with that last win was also 5-3 but with 15 or 16 objectives which got him a spot as an alternate in the finals. So I was just out.

All my games went to elimination. Most of the other games around me were over early. I only saw 1 person win on a last turn player 2 grab.

I had a great time. Enjoyed putting faces to names, even the forgot the names. As I am not in the finals, I finally get to visit the exhibit hall for longer than a dash

Who ever thought that slowing Zombies down would be a useful tactic?:D

I believe there were around 88 people at the end of the first day. Only around 60 at the end of the 2nd day.
They gave everyone who stuck through it all a Tezla's Magestaff :)

I was thinking around 90 for day 1. 88 may be a bit more accurate. Several folks should up for day 2 bought their boosters and left. They were charging $15 for 3, so it was somewhat of a deal.

As for the rulings, I did not see or hear any odd ones. Not to say that they weren't any. (I didn't see any Storm Mauls, but I knew they were there) The new FAQ was in place. If there were any questions that took time (i.e. referring up to Sigma), they paused time for the game in question. Seemed to work well. None of my games had any 'heated' ruling debates. I think we only asked for one ruling and that was just for clarification and the envoy was standing right there. During one round, the game next to our got a bit heated, but the envoys got things calmed down. Personality seemed to have a lot to do with it.

3 of the top 4 armies had storm maul, and I think there were only 2 of us in the top 8 without storm maul.

That was a very effective army you had there Braden. Seemed like it would do well as it was more versatile that would first appear.

I guess from your comments that you lost in the second round yesterday?

Yeah. Inspite of having three healers I couldn't save them from the Maul (my healing attempts all seemed to be critical hits or critical misses). It was a close match, but he managed to kill enough of the zombie, and demoralize lady ciara to stop the horde from returning.

There were 3 SM in Top 4. 5 SM in Top 8.

Braden, you had your horde. There was the ThunderJavelin army that got 2nd, knocking out a storm maul in the semis. There also was my Chroma/Inferno army....as the 16, knocking out the undefeated #1 Summon army.


Overall I had a great time, playing with higher competition than I'm used to around the homelands.

An interesting note: A large number of the top 8 storm maulers thought the piece was broken. I am not one to scream broken, but in the final game there were 2 attack rolls (both on the first turn) and two healing rolls the entire game.

I got 3rd alternate. First Day I first played the same Kyle that D Gibbings did. I Had a Blackguard with k-bow on a Pegasus, Honor Guard weak on an EF Dragon, Tough Zombie Centaur, and a Blood Shaman weak. In the First game I Played nothing for domains. My oponent Played clear skies. I hid Back with my pieces until he moved up with every thing. I tied up Rava with the centaur and moved the Dragon ito posistion. blackguard went the back way. I Got a charge with the dragon. First attack I needed a 4,Rava had Shadow plate of the realms. I rolled a 3, then I needed a 5, rolled a 4. Then Rava was in my rear arc. The dragon died soon after that along with the Zombie centaur. I got a hit on lady ciara too. The Possesed got beat up by blackguard. But once it looked like i could win with a Full health Black Guard and Shaman and a 2 clicks down Pegasus. But lady Ciara moved up and shot me with a Scroll of Storms Killed the Pegasus, Black Guard died, Blew up and finshed off Lady ciara and Demo'd my Blood Shaman. So I lost. But next Game was Better.
I played Xanathon next. He Had Rava with inferno, 2 tough zombie centaurs, 1 tough orc violator, 1 Standard Death Singer, and 2 cp's. He played his Dummy Domain and i played River Valley. I Hid again behind blocking with the dragon and came around the side with Blackguard. He Kept Rava just out of charge Range of the Dragon and everyoneelse followed. I Moved the Dragon into charge range to get rava. Next turn i Charged Rava for 3 and the revanter for 3 with the dragon. Blackguard killed a protector. He Moved His Attackers up Towards my Cavalry and got rava in to shooting position. I Cleared. The Dragon finished the Revananter and Blackguard Finished another cp or something. the Dragon then took 4 damage from Rava and the attackers moved up. I then finished off rava but I couldn't do anything next turn. My Guys didn't die right away so i healed the Dragon and Mountless Blackguard(Mount died) Helped clean up. That was a win.

Next Guy had a bad army. Khan harrowblada with Decapitator and a bunch Of stuff. i easily walked through him and won.
Last Game i played A Blackguard with k bow on Sky dancer, 2 revananters, 2healers, and the possesed. He moved up with Sky Dancer and Shot my blackguard early. I moved back Black guard and overwhelmed Black Guard. it blew up my Dragon. He the Revanented Black Guard back and Missed. So with all of my guys left and a healer I Walked over what was left. 2nd Day I got a bad pull lost twice(once to Scott Smith, I could've won but i didn't know the free holder archer dials.) then played losers and won. My last game I should've gotten 2 objectives but I Placed my horse over the token and never flipped it so when i moved it later there was no proof that i had it. That coud've placed me in the top 16 But it is my fault. oh well. I'll do better neext year.

Ah the fun of competition. You lose to Kyle and beat Xanathon, and I went the other way.

Thanks for taking out Kyle's Clear Skies. Under Storm Gale his army was a hurting pup. Quiet kids that you play in the third round after going 2-0 really worry me. :)

I thought with a 5-3 record with 16 objectives I would have the 16th spot, but they used different tie breakers. Oh well I can't complain for the first time I actually get to play in Nationals.
